CAJE Held Summer Institute
The Coalition for the Ad
vancement of Jewish Educa
tion (CAJE) recently convened
an innovative summer Insti
tute July 10-14 at the Univer
sity of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
CAJE, the largest Jewish
educator membership organi
zation in North America, is
committed to education sup
port and the transmission of
the Jewish heritage. Four hun
dred members, from 31 states
and two Canadian provinces,
gathered for this four-day
celebration of Jewish teaching.
Attending from the Charlotte
Jewish community were Fern
Sanderson from Temple Israel
and Lenora Stein, Carolina
Agency for Jewish Education.
The participants at the In
stitute encountered 150 learn
ing opportunities from which
to choose during the Institute.
Four specialized areas called
Machonim were presented in-
depth every morning: Art of
Teaching, Early Childhood,
Experiential Learning and
Family Education. The after
noon sessions offered a wide
vEiriety of study in pedagogy,
Judaica or Hebrew language.
All sessions were taught by
local £md national educators
and scholars.
In the evenings, local
Milwaukee emd international
talent — storytellers, pup
peteers, singers and musicians
— entertained the Institute at
tendees.
