Temple Israel to Begin Jewish Hospice Program
Board members have been
busy planning the slate of
events for the coming year
with our monthly speaker pro
grams scheduled to begin in
September. There were some
interesting summer events
held and some yet to come! In
May, members headed out to
the old ballfield to see the
Charlotte Knights baseball
game. Afterwards, they went
to the Press Box to watch
some of the NBA playoffs.
Our June program saw the
continued emphasis on ath
letic events as the lodge
visited Coliseum Lanes to try
our luck at bowling. Although
the talent was better than ex
pected, the Pro-Bowlers Tour
has nothing to fear, unless
they start awarding prize
money for the lowest score.
High series honors went to
Stuart Cohen and Scott
Menaker with the low series
prize money going to Drew
Levinson.
August will be busy as we
get ready for our yearly kick-
off. The annual lodge blood
drive will take place on Satur
day, August 6, at the JCC
from noon-4 p.m. Appoint
ments are required; call Jim
Meadow, 541-9545, to be
scheduled to give blood or to
volunteer to help with this
event. B'nai B’rith Men and
Women appreciate £dl your
help in making this year’s
drive a big success.
The annual membership
drive, otherwise known as
August Freeze, will be held on
Sunday, August 21, at Park
Road Park. This event allows
our members, families and
guests to socialize and discuss
our sununer trips and happen
ings. It is a great way to start
the year sind meet fellow lodge
members, especially with the
lodge supplying all the food
and drink. For information,

Temple Israel will begin
training for its Jewish Hospice
program at Shalom Park on
August 18 from 7:30-10 p.m.
The purpose of this program is
to provide help to those
families in the congregation
with terminally ill members,
be it a Shabbat dinner to
respite care and emotional
support. This program will not
take the place of Hospice
Charlotte, but will be its
Jewish complement. The tar-

mer. Members have been ac
tive in the following projects;
• Crisis Assistance — The
conrniunity was very generous
in its contributions to our
clothing drive in May. Mem
bers of HaLailah gathered at
the home of Penny Eisenberg
to sort bags and bags of sum
mer and winter clothing.
• March of Dimes Phonathon
— Members helped solicit
funds for this armual event.
• Project Graduation —
HaLailah celebrated with this
year’s graduates at Carowinds
by providing chaperones dur
ing the night’s festivities.
• Membership Tea — On
June 1, HaLailah welcomed
three new members to our
ranks. Thanks to Mindy Mes-
con for the delicious desserts
and the successful evening.
