Cooper Attended
CAJE Conference
In Israel
Roz Cooper, director of the
religious school of Temple
Beth El V’Shalom, was in
Israel this summer. She, to
gether with 2,000 other North
American, European and Is
raeli educators met in Jeru
salem, July 31 to August 5, at
the 13th Annual Conference of
the Coalition for the Advance
ment of Jewish Education
(CAJE). The Conference pro
gram, developed by a commit
tee of Americans and Israelis,
was 2V2 years in planning. It
was designed so that educa
tors could share ideas, meth
odologies and materials, as
well as expose themselves to
the historic, political and
societal factors that have
shaped Israel as a nation and
as the Jewish homeland.
Declared £m official event of
Israel’s 40th anniversary cele
brations, the Conference was
endorsed by Israel's Educa
tion Ministry, Teachers'
Union and the Kibbutz Move
ment. It received grants from
the Joint Program for Jewish
Education, the CRB Founda
tion and North American Jew
ish federations.
Roz said, “It was £m injec
tion of enthusiasm, a sharing
of ideas and an intense emo
tional experience. The edu
cator needs to recharge, both
professionaUy and personally,
at regular intervals. The Con
ference program, the experi
ence of being in Israel again
and the interrelation between
educators from different
places and different fields w£is
an experience that will long be
cherished.”
