This is the first of a series. Sandra Gold Weinstein Sandra, a native of Lumber- ton, NC, moved to Charlotte over four years ago and knows the importance of a cohesive Jewish community. Growing up in a town with a very smaU Jewish population, having to travel every Sunday 100 miles for Sunday School, and having no Jewish Community Center to meet and interact with other Jews, she always knew she wanted to be an integral part of a larger Jewish com munity. She has always loved her heritage and has a greater appreciation for having grown up as she did. Sandra’s impact on Charlotte has been tremen dous. She has served as co chairperson for “Shalom Y’all,” cochairperson of Super Sunday 1988 and is involved in Temple Beth El V’Shalom. She works full time with the NC State Department of Rev enue. Sandra made her first visit to Israel this summer. Sandra Weinstein Rosalind Taranto I moved to Charlotte, by choice, almost a year ago from Columbus, Georgia. I chose Charlotte for many reasons, but one of the most important was its active Jewish commu nity. Since my teenage years when I first became active in B’nai B’rith Girls and through the years of being active in Rosalind Taranto Hadassah and Federation, I’ve always known how impor tant a cohesive conmiunity can be. It gives me a sense of continuity with my heritage being an American Jewess. Our heritage is something no one can take away, but we all must do our part to preserve it. I am the mother of three daughters and have two grand sons. Caiii i. RUSSELL’S PHOTOGRAPHY • Studio Near Pineville. N. C. • E.
