The Adult Institute of Jewish Studies
Piece Together Your Jewishness — And Feel Good About It
The Adult Institute of Jewish Studies is back! The In
stitute's puipose is to make courses available to all who
wish a Jewish education. Total beginners may come to
classes and listen and ask whatever they want. Others may
come because they have a love of study of Judaism. Still
others may come to learn Jewish traditions, Hebrew and
Jewish history.
Be part of this program now! Below is a schedule of classes
and fees. Babysitting is available at a nominal pre-paid
fee. The Adult Institute of Jewish Studies is cosponsored
by Temple Beth El V'Shalom, Temple Israel, Lubavitch
of North Carolina, The Jewish Community Center, The
Charlotte Jewish Federation.

BASIC/BEGINNING HEBREW,
From Aleph to Tov
Basic level Hebrew. This course is designed to develop
fluency in reading Hebrew. The proven teaching method
makes reading Hebrew easy and pleasant.

ISRAEL FROM ’48 TO ’88
The struggle, survival and success of the State of Israel
will be the topic of this class.

FROM WORLD WAR I TO
THE HOLOCAUST TO ISRAEL
A political and historical point of view: a review of history
in Germany from the end of World War I to the Holocaust,
to the birth of The State of Israel.
SYNAGOGUE SKILLS
An orientation to the basic Shabbat services and the mean
ing, purpose and origin of the prayers and customs.

A Jewish cooking class from traditional to gourmet meals.
The class will be taught according to the laws of kashrut.

An in-depth study of Jewish philosophy based on the con
cepts of the Torah. A very practic^ course.

LET’S TALK IN HEBREW
8 weeks, 8:45-9:45 p.m.
A class on raising a Jewish family in Charlotte, N.C. The
class will be in a forum, question and answer style and will
deal with life in a Jewish home.
An intermediate level Hebrew conversation class. The
course is designed to develop fluent conversations for
those who can read Hebrew. The informal atmosphere will
make it possible for each student to learn at own pace.

THE JEWISH HOLIDAYS
An introductory course in Jewish beliefs and practices.
The course deals with the Jewish people, the Jewish view
of life, Jewish life cycle, the high holidays and ending with
the holiday of Chanukah.
Leam how to celebrate the Jewish holidays and their
meanings. No background is necessary for this class; share
the meaning of Jewish holidays with your family.
