One hundred fifty-one is the number of days that Rachel House, a shelter for homeless women and children, will be open this winter. Sponsored by Temple Israel, Rachel House is staffed entirely by volunteers of all faiths. A minimum of four volunteers are needed daily — one to cook the evening meal, another to greet the guests, and two or three to stay overnight. The time commitment varies from a couple of hours to an over night stay. Volunteers who serve as cooks prepare the evening meal and generally deliver the meal prior to the 5 p.m. open ing time. Greeters arrive at 5 p.m., open the shelter, greet and register guests and ac quaint new guests with shelter policies. Stayover volunteers arrive at 7 p.m. and provide the continuity necessary to ad minister the shelter. The shelter closes the following morning at 7:30 a.m. All new greeter and stay- over volunteers are required to attend a 1V2 hour training ses sion. The sessions will be held on Sunday afternoons begin ning in mid-October. Rachel House served 50 homeless people last year and is expected to host even more this winter. It can be done on ly with the cooperation of dozens of volunteers. Make an appointment now to serve as a volunteer on one of the 151 days Rachel House will be open. For more details, please call the following volunteer coordinators: (Cooks) Faye Sinkoe, 366-7767; (Greeters) Ellie Katz, 364-7757; (Stay- overs) Leah Sepsenwol or Carol Bentley, 373-0582 or the Temple Israel office, 376-2796. • Rachel House suffered a theft earlier this year and con sequently has an extensive “wish list” of needed items.
