The Community Outreach Mission to Israel, scheduled for March 5-15, 1989, is one of the most exciting and dynamic missions drawing leadership from the entire country for em intense 10-day Israel experi ence. We expect to have a large contingent going, but there £u-e still openings for more. Maddie and Phil Joffe are the leaders of our dele gation. Meetings are being hosted by the Joffes and other members of the Mission. This year’s group will leave from Atlanta and fly to Am sterdam en route to Israel. In Amsterdam, they will be the guests of the Amsterdam Jew ish community. Then they will land at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv for the beginning of an inspiring journey. Ar rangements can be made for an extended stay in Israel.The Outreach Mission is partially subsidized, which strongly en courages North American Jewry to participate in the mission program and give sup port to Israel economically and emotionaUy by traveling to the land. Are you joining us? Ms. Leigh Thalhimer has been named a vice president of Presbyterian Hospital. She came to Presbyterian in 1985 as ad ministrative resident and has been administrative assistant since 1986. • Brian Schneiderman, son of Michael Schneiderman £ind Alexis Stein, has received the Rensselaer Medal from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. The award recognizes ex cellence in mathematics and science. He is a student at West Charlotte High. • Craig Kaufmann, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Kaufmann, one of 121 competitors vying for cash prizes in divisions at the re cent tournament of the N.C. Open Chess Championship held at Charlotte’s Metro Center, won a $75 prize in the under 1500 section. • The Charlotte Latin girls’ 200-meter medley team was named to the All-American list of the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association. Alexis Lerner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lerner, is a member of this 4-member team which held the llth-fastest time last yeeir for independent schools. • At the recent competition in a Junior Olympics Qualifier meet in Lenoir, liana Kavadlo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Kavadlo, in the girls’ 9 & 10 division, came in first in 50-meter butterfly and 50-meter freestyle; second in 100-meter butter fly. She swims with MAC. Ruthie Abel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Abel, at the same meet with MAC, came in second in the 200-meter breaststroke in the girls’ 13 & 14 division. • Several of our college students attending UNC-Chapel Hill were named to the spring semester dean’s list: Jay Ashendorf, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Ashendorf; Jeffrey Klein, son of Dr. Deysey Klein and Robert Klein; Matthew Kodsi, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kodsi; Daly a Massachi, daughter of Ms. Rose Diamond £md Ben Massachi; Shelli Saperstein, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Saperstein; David Silverman, son of Mr. and Mrs Meirc Silverman.
