In and Around the JCC
Casino Nite Was a Safe Bet!
The Jewish Community
Center’s 1st emnual Casino
Nite will long be remembered
as one of the highlight events
of the year. Nearly 250 people
packed Gorelick Hall to play
Blackjack, Craps, Roulette
and Chuck-O'Luck while being
entertained by Ms. Daryl
Ryce.
Daryl Ryce’s beautiful and
intriguing voice, comple
mented by her piano and
guitar, provided a gentle
balance to the excitement tak
ing place just a few feet away
at the gaming tables; most of
which stayed active right
down to the last minute,
around 10:45 p.m.
The desserts were varied
and outrageously delicious;
from the different sizes and
flavors of cheesecakes to the
chocolate “blackout” cakes, to
the bobkas and rugalach. If
anyone was counting calories
instead of gaming chips, the
dessert tables were definitely
not the place to be. A special
thanks to George Schmaren
Bakery and Morningstar
Bakery for supplying such
delicious pastries.
Capping the evening was an
auction skillfuUy c^ed by
Doug Little of Lucky Dia
mond Parties, Inc. Winners at
the gaming tables used their
“markers” to bid on over two
dozen gift items. Included in
the auction were complimen
tary dinners at Byrums, Fen
wicks, The Royal Palace, El
CanCun, The Cajun Queen and
Our Gang; gift certificates at
Paul Simon and Yours Truly
Needlepoint; free massages,
babysitting, and courses at
the “J”, plus books, gifts and
more.

and exciting evening. The size
able crowd was comprised of
people of all age groups and
the “social mixing” encour
aged the making of many new
acquaintances.
Sincerest thanks from the
community to all of the volun
teers who served as dealers,
bankers and bartenders; they
were the key to making the
evening enjoyable for the
players.
A special thanks to the
members of the Ways and
Means Committee of the JCC
who contributed their time
and talented efforts to ensure
that the rest of us had a ball.
Those special people are:
Evelyn Berger, Maddie Joffe,
Arlene Karp, Barbara Levin,
Sol Levine, Paula Musler, Jill
Newman, Debbie Rosenberger
and Eric Sklut. The active in

without a hitch.
Monies raised by Casino

Plans will begin shortly for

be scheduled in 1989.
