Page 1 8THE NEWS-November, 1988 sWff More In and Around the JCC The Value of Youth and Teen Programs What’s in It for Me? By Scott Snyder JCC Program Director I remember when I was a youngster. The place to be was the JCC. Whether it was a specific program, class, trip, youth group or just to “hemg out,” I was there. Quite often I think back 15 years ago and wonder why, if at all, it is different today. Part of the answer lies with us, the parents. We have a responsibili ty to our children to assist them in meeting the social, cultural and recreational needs they possess. What better place in town is there to meet those needs than the JCC. In areas of informal education, social development and recrea tion, tlie JCC provides a large variety of programs for children and youth of all ages. These programs enhance self-improve ment, social and emotional development and provide many ex periential opportunities and interactions under the supervision of responsible and capable professional staff. One of our main thrusts is to help fulfill an individual’s potential as well as stimulate his/her leadership potential. The opportunity to be involv'ed at the JCC is just waiting for your family and it can and wrill promote new and lasting friendships. What’s happening at the JCC? This is a question that I’m asked on a fairly regular basis. My answer is: quite a lot! The following is “what’s happening” now: Motheir’s Morning Out Sundav Club groups After-school enrichment clubs Latchlcey Birthday parties Swim programs Tumbling programs Teen Connection Arts &. Crafts Dance, music classes Exercise programs Babysitting workshops Lifesaving & WSI Karate Basketball leagues Soccer leagues Racquetb^ leagues Scouting program School vacation programs Jr. High Supper Club BBYO Cheerleading Pre-school programs: 2s, 3s & 4s College preparatory programs Adult Classes Ballroom Dance Individual or group lessons, $5 per person for 1 hour.
