Welcome! —Nina Haas Hadassah On October 30, the Educa tion Committee of the Char lotte Chapter of Hadassah sponsored a lecture by Dr. Abraham Holtzman, Pro fessor of Political Science at N.C. State University. Dr. Holtzmann has a BA and an MA from UCLA and an MA and PhD from Harvard. The topic was “The 1988 Elec tion-Political Attitudes of merican Jews.” The Charlotte Chapter of jHadassah, in conjunction with the JCC and the Foundation of the Jewish Community, will hold its annual Book and Author Evening on Sunday, November 20, at 8 p.m. in Gorelick Hall at Shalom Park. The event will be the highlight of Jewish Book Week and will feature Eli Evans. Nancy Blacker is chair person for this event. The program celebrated our 13th year (Bat Mitzvah) with a lovely can(Ue lighting cere mony present^ by HaLailah's past presidents. Also making the evening special was the collection of Chanukah gifts for refuseniks. Members en joyed an elegant buffet of hors d’oeuvres and desserts. Many thanks to past presidents Maddie Joffe and Wendy Rosen for coordinating the evening and to Eileen Darholt for planning the buffet. The Letter Writing Cam paign held September 18 at the JCC was a rewarding ex perience. Thirty-five partici pants wrote 100 letters to the President, Mr. Gorbachev, re fuseniks and Congressional leaders in support of Soviet Jewry.
