Rosina Fcrnoff to Perform Educational and Training Events Held
Rosina Fernhoff will per

tributing $365 or more to the
1989 Campaign.
Ms. Fernhoff was born in
Woodridge, New York, and is
a graduate of Carnegie Tech.
Her first professioned appear-
emce was at the Ann Arbor
Theatre Festival in 1952
where she created the role of
Molly in Jane Bowles’ In the
Summer House in the com
pany of Miriam Hopkins, Ann
Jackson and Mildred Dun-
nock. Subsequently, in New
York, she won an Obie for her
performances off Broadway in
Rosina Fernoff
In Israel, she has played Juliet
with the Camere Theatre and
most recently, toured the
country in Av Inlender’s
Jerusalem Story.
The months of October and
November have been filled
with educational and training
events for Women’s Division
of Federation. A Parlor Meet
ing was held at the home of
Dorothy Ashendorf on Oct. 16
at which the women had an op
portunity to discuss Federa
tion and its activities. There
was a detailed presentation by
Meg Goldstein, 1989 Women’s
Division Campaign Chair, on
the needs of our Jewish com
munity, £ilong with informa
tion on the needs of Jews in
Israel and throughout the
world.
A similar informal meeting
wiU be held at the home of

There will be no solicitations
at this meeting.
On Oct. 23, there was a train
ing session held at Shalom
Park. Nancy Siegel, a UJA
volunteer, trained by the Na
tional Training Center, re
freshed our skills and mo
tivated us for the 1989 Cam
paign. Nancy, who lives in Col
orado, was our trainer for last
year’s campaign and returned
to Charlotte at our request.
Her inspiration and sug
gestions gave our campaign
workers an opportunity to
evaluate last year’s campaign
and learn ad^tional skills to
improve their effectiveness for
this year’s campaign.
On Oct. 26 at Shalom Park,
a joint solicitor’s training pro
gram was held. Two volunteer
professional trainers from
UJA educated the workers on
the “Case for 1989 Giving”
and introduced solicitor skills.
The ’89 Campaign is well
under way and it needs our
commitment of time and
financial resources to ensure
its success.

Women’s Pledge — Why?
The value of Women’s Divi
sion is measured in the oppor
tunity it offers to women in
both volunteer and profes
sional capacities to participate
in the campaign and communi
ty decision making.
The establishment of Na
tional Women’s Division after
World War II taught women
that they must educate them
selves Jewishly and make
their own gifts of tzedakah if
they were to become policy
makers and community leaders.
Since ancient history, it was
the Jewish woman who ac
cepted an obligation to help
her fellow Jews. It was she as
a Jewish woman and an indi
vidual who filled the pushke
boxes for Israel and the poor.
The Women’s Division is,
therefore, the modem expres
sion of this ancient womanly
involvement.
Women are a part of the
community, live in the com
munity, and have a respon
sibility to the community.
Each woman, as an individual
and not just as part of a fami
ly, is responsible for doing her
share.
We also need to remember
that American aid to Israel is
influenced not only by the
amount raised by American
Jews, but more importantly,
by the number of Jewish
givers.
Through a woman’s involve
ment comes the education of
her family and her profound
influence on our Jewish life.
