18th Century Revisited by Lubavitch Day School Page 15-THE NEWS-February 1991 Students at Lubavitch Day School took a journey through time on Friday, Jan. 11 with a special tour from the Charlotte- Mecklenburg Historical Associ ation. The children explored the life and experiences of early Amer ica with the help of Lisa Tappy who was dressed in Colonial garments and guided the chil dren through this fascinating world which helped found our country. The children examined the tools and crafts of the early settlers and watched a demon stration in carding wool and eventual spinning into thread. The children were amazed by the hand-crafted toys and also by the important role children played in sustaining the house hold. Susan Doobrow, kindergar ten teacher at Lubavitch Day School, took her students on a tour of the Polk house where they experienced life in a re stored log house, played with antique toys and viewed the simple furnishings. Mrs. Doobrow made home made strawberry jam in the old colonial fashion and dressed in the garments which helped them better understand the days of old. “Earthly Event” Held at School Children experimenting with artifacts of tlie past under supervision of Lisa Tappy.
