Page 10-THE NEWS-August 1991 Jewish Communitv Center Many Attend Annual “Mcmbcrfcst” Sinsles Symposium Weekend Held at Wildacres On June 15 the Jewish Com munity Center held its third annual “Memberfest.” Approx imately 200 members and guests enjoyed an evening under the stars. They were able to try out our fitness center, swim in the pools, or play a game of racquet- ball or tennis. Everyone came back for seconds of the ham burgers and hot dogs prepared by a wonderful crew of volun teers. The highlight of the eve ning was a performance by our own “Blue Moons.” We extend a warm welcome to the over 70 new members who joined during “Memberfest” and hope that we see a lot of them in the months and years ahead. Thanks go to all the volunteers and staff who helped make the evening a huge success. — Debby Rosenberger “Meals on Wheels” Program Starts “The “Meals on Wheels” program is off and rolling. We have been delivering meals for two months now to those unable to get out to our Hot Lunch Nutrition Program. It has been well received with inquiries weekly about future deliveries. Many thanks to Frank Roth schild for delivering the meals to the participants. To quote a family member, “My grand mother eats a lot of prepared foods and sometimes doesn't eat at all, so the meal that you deliver really makes a differ ence.” Anyone in need of this service should call Marcia Stern, director of Sr. Adult Programs, 366-5007. Hot Lunch Program is Successful The Senior Adult Hot Lunch Program, which started in Feb ruary, 1990, has been well re ceived by the Jewish and the non-Jewish community. The no- salt/low-cholesterol Kosher meals will be served on Mondays and Thursdays following a full morning of activities. In addi tion, the JCC will be offering a Friday “Shabbat Sharing” lun cheon at which the Seniors and the four-year-old and Pre-K classes from the Charlotte Jew ish Preschool enjoy a beautiful luncheon complete with challah and Shabbat candlelighting. The program has been well supported by volunteers in the community. These volunteers set the tables, serve and clear the tables. We couldnH serve the meals “piping hot” without them. A special thanks to vol unteer coordinators Elaine Schefflin, Helga Rosenberger and Hushie Silverstein. If you would like to become a volunteer or would like to donate candles, wine or challah please call the coordinators, Evelyn Berger, Sr. Adult Committee Chair or Mar cia Stern, director of Sr. Adult Programs, Sr. Adult Hot Lunch Program Aug. 5 - Lasagna Roll Aug. 12 - Meat Loaf Aug. 19 - Baked Fish Aug. 26 - Baked Chicken PICK A ROSENFELD for All Your Rea!
