“Starry Night” Singles Dancc
And they danced the night away...
We’re having a great time (L to r.) Feodor Vainstein, Cheryl Ross,
Jeff Kogut, Shari Jenner, Kurt Rogers and Sheryl Bodner.
The Charlotte Jewish Singles
sponsored its first annual Fall
semi-formal dance on Nov. 20.
If this year’s response is an
indication, we will host a dance
every year. Over 125 singles
attended the party from all over
North and South Carolina. We
had a large contingent from
Greensboro as well as Raleigh/
Durham and Columbia. Many
people helped make this event
such a great success. Susie and
Jack DeSarno made super
drinks for everyone at the bar,
and Debbi Maslov and Beth
Mattos did a great job decorat
ing Gorelick Hall. Everyone
enjoyed the food catered by
Phil’s Deli of Strawberry Hill
and danced past midnight to
“Easy Street.”
Gourmet Without Guilt
Now is your chance to cook delicious and healthy in the same
kitchen. The Jewish Community Center is offering a wonderful
selection of cooking classes. Each six-week series will highlight
a different selection of foods.
Course I: Everything from Soup to Nuts Jan. 4-Feb. 8
Course H: Schmaltz Free Holiday Cooking Feb. 15-Mar. 22
Course HI; Summertime, and the Meals are Lite & Easy
Apr. 5-May 10
You can take one class or all six in a series. Fee to members
is $20 for individual classes or $100 for a series; $30 for individual
classes and $130 for a series for non-members. For more
information, call Debby Rosenberger, 366-5007.
“Wanna Dancc?”
If you like to dance and never
get the opportunity, now is your
chance. The JCC has more adult
dance classes than ever. Whether
you want to sway to the strains
of Polynesian Music in our
“Hawaiian Heart” class, com
bine fluid movements and med
itation in “Dance Within,” learn
how to line dance or become the
next Ann Miller in the tap
classes, you’ll find it all at the
J. Classes start early this month
so call or stop by the front desk
and “get your feet moving.”

Brunch & Learn
The Adult Jewish Institute
will hold its annual Brunch and
Learn series during January and
February. Two very exciting
programs with excellent speak
ers are being presented.
On Sunday, Jan. 16, Dr.
James Tabor of UNCC and Dr.
John Reeves from Winthrop
University, both Dead Sea
Scroll authorities, will speak on
the Dead Sea Scrolls and who
they had a greater effect on, the
Jewish religion or Christianity.
The program will begin at 10
a.m. in Gorelick Hall at Shalom
Park.
Deborah S. Bosley, assistant
professor of English at UNCC,
will speak on Sunday, Feb. 20.
Ms. Bosley, a published poet,
will explore the power of religion
and feminism as influences in the
lives and literature of the best
women poets of our age. This
program will be held at Temple
Israel at 10 a.m.
A bagel brunch will be served
at both lectures, prior to the
program. The cost for each is
$4.50 for JCC members and $6
for non-members. For more
information, call Debby Rosen
berger, 366-5007.
The Climbing Club
The Jewish Community Cen
ter and The Charlotte Climbing
Center have teamed together to
bring you The Climbing Club.
Every Monday participants will
travel from the ‘J’ to The Climb
ing Center for three hours of
safe, clean entertainment.
We have put together a pack
age that we feel will benefit all
involved. If you ever had the
desire to rock climb but felt it
wasn’t safe or your parents
wouldn’t let you because they
thought it was dangerous, then
the Climbing Club is for you.
You will learn the proper way
to climb using a harness, ropes
and Belay Devices.
The Club is for everyone,
whether you have never climbed
or climb every day. There is
always something to do. All
participants will complete an
orientation class and ground
school before climbing.
The climbing club is open to
all 6-8th graders on the first and
third Monday of each month
and to the 9-12th graders on the
second and fourth Monday of
each month. A van will leave the
JCC at 4:30 p.m. as needed.
Dinner will be available by
reservation only. Reservations
must be made for transportation
and dinner at least one week in
advance.
For more information please
call Nathalie Sowers, 366-5007
or Eric Evans at The Charlotte
Climbing Center, 333-ROCK.
