As in basketball, we are a team working together either as a point guard for the commu nity, bringing the ball up court and passing off to the Temples and Jewish Community Center to keep Jewish continuity alive, or as the three-point shooter helping to raise the total. While Shalom Park is the apple of the Community's eye, it's an expensive facility to op erate. The good news is the Park has done everything the founders envisioned, especially in terms of usage. The bad news is the Park is showing wear and tear and is getting more expen sive to maintain. The Federa tion provides approximately 8% to 10% of the dollars raised to underwrite costs so that the Temples and the JCC, which share responsibility for the op erating, expenses can use their limited dollars for program ming. As successful program ming brings more people into the building, the wear and tear increases and the need for Fed eration dollars to help keep the building in order continues. Over the course of the next several months, much will be written about the need for your dollars. All of it is true. It's dif ficult to sit on my side of the desk and see how desperately resources are needed while lis tening to a laundry list of ex cuses for not contributing to the campaign. We will be soon reaching out to everyone in what some one described as "the most ex tensive outreach effort of any organization." Perhaps it is because it's for all the orga nizations.
