Luba^itcli of North Carolina Jewish Day School Holds Rabin Memorial Students and teachers at the Jewish Day School of Charlotte were shocked to learn about the horrible tragedy that occured in Is rael, the assasination of Prime Min ister Yitzhak Rabin. On Monday, November 6, the entire school assembled for a spe cial memorial service. Rabbi Binyomin Weiss led the service by reciting Psalms with the children. He spoke with emotion as he ex plained to the children the sad rami fications of the tragedy. Rabbi Weiss helped the chil dren deal with their pain and em phasized the value of human life. He asked that each child should do an extra act of kindness to a sibling or friend, through which they would counter the evil which was done. The mood was one of reflec tion and sadness. This was evident on the faces of the students, as they contemplated the words of Rabbi Weiss. In conclusion, the children made a resolution to increase in the Mitzvah of Ahavat Yisrael - Love of a fellow Jew, and to spread the positive message of love to their friends. Violence and murder are anath ema to our Torah’s teachings, as they are to all civilized people. The moral leadership of the world must not tire in its efforts to eliminate fanaticism amid extremism of any kind. The Rebbe has taught us that tragedy, G-d forbid, must be coun tered by positive and constructive efforts. The Jewish people, and all men and women of goodwill, should pause to reflect upon the sanctity of human life, and the im portance of mutual love and respect. Let us actively embrace tangible and meaningful acts of goodness and kindness towards one another, and let us seek to overcome and heal the fissures that bring disunity and chaos to the world. Our condolences to Mrs. Rabin and family, and to all our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land who have suffered so much and so deeply from acts of violence and murder. As always, we pray for peace- true and enduring peace-in Israel and in the entire world.
