EARLY CHILDHOOD DEPARTMENT Pre-school Winter Camp Hanukkah & More For 3’s & 4’s The JCC Pre-school Winter Camp for 3’s and 4’s will be held on December 18-29. The camp will run from 9:00am to 1:00pm each day. You have the option of signing your pre-schoolers up for either Monday/Tuesday/Wednes day OR Thursday/Friday OR all five days. ALL children who at tend the camp MUST be potty trained. Hanukkah will be the theme with the children making crafts, learning Hanukkah songs and playing Hanukkah games. And of course, partaking in delicious Ha nukkah foods. Contact Sally Wil liams, Early Childhood Director, at 366-5007 for more information. Toy Drive The Early Childhood Depart ment is planning its 2nd annual Toy Drive for January 14-20. We are asking that all donations be in good repair, clean and contain all parts. As before, some of the toys will go to the Infant/Toddler Pro gram and some will be donated to local programs benefiting needy children. So start cleaning out those closets and help out our chil dren as well as some special chil dren from our community. *We are requesting that the toys be suitable for ages 2 months - 36 months. Thanks for any help you can give. Winter Camp at the JCC... Pick a Program! The JCC will have a WINTER CAMP program during the school break. Camp will run from December 18th through December 22nd, and December 26th through December 29th. Any child, currently enrolled in Kindergarten through the sixth grade, is welcome. All campers will spend the morning together, visit ing some of Charlotte’s favorite kid spots or special entertain ment will be brought to the JCC. After Lunch, campers will have the opportunity to attend the two hour, SPECIALTY of their choice. They may choose between Karate, Tennis, All Sports, or Arts and Crafts. This way everyone can participate in their fa vorite activity. When the specialty classes are over, everyone will head for the pool. What a great ending to a great day! Please send a dairy lunch, towel and bathing suit every day. You may register by the day Pre and Post care is available. Please register by December 14th. Infant/Toddler Program Make The Grade! We are proud to announce that The Infant/Toddler Program under the direction of Sally Williams, received a PERFECT SCORE on the recent State and Fire inspec tions. Sally was noted as being “cooperative, conscientious, en thusiastic, and a pleasure to work with”. Great work Sally! We are very proud of you and your pro gram! Famiiy Focus We have had great turn outs for our Family Focus seminars. Parents feel they have benefited greatly from the information they have received. Look for more to be planned for the winter and spring. We will also start a Working Mother’s United group. This group will discuss is sues concerning Mother’s who work outside the home. Hanukkah Factory I HAVE A LITTLE DREIDLE... I MADE IT BY MYSELF! Children love to celebrate Hanukkah but it can be much more meaningful to celebrate the holi day with menorahs, and dreildles they made themselves! On Sun day, December 10th, the Children’s and Family department is sponsor ing a Hanukkah Factory. We will start the afternoon with a dairy lunch and continue to the art room for a make and take, Ha- nukkah Factory. Stations will be set up so that every child will be able to assemble and decorate their own dreidles and menorahs. They will be made of wood so your child will be able to use them for many Ha- nukkahs to come. Look for sample dreidles and menorahs to be on dis play. It promises to be a festive and informative way for children to begin their holiday. Monies raised during this family-oriented event will increase the kind of opportunities the JCC offers to children and families and, through scholarship dollars, insure that everyone who wants to participate can. Singer, songwriter TOM CHAPIN will headline the “Celebrate the Children” inaugural event on January 7, 1996. His popular style and warm, engaging performances will delight audiences in more than 100 theaters across the country this year. Known for music that spans generations and reaffirms the rewards of family life....Tom Chapin In Concert is a perfect way for our community to “Celebrate the Children!” The January 7th concert, held at Spirit Square, will be an afternoon filled with family fun and entertainmem. The festivities will conclude with free ice cream for everyone thanks to a gracious donation from Ben & Jerry’s. There is a unique opp>ortunity to help support this special event in a significant way. Borrowing the title of one of Chapin’s signature tunes, we are offering “FamUy TVee” sponsorships before general ticket sales begin. For $100, families can purchase “Family TVee” sponsorships and receive 4 tickets for the Chapin performance, an invitation to a pre-concert reception honoring all our family and corporate sponsors, and special recognition in all of the concert literature. In addition, the JCC will greatly appreciate any Family Donations in excess of $100. For those families unable to come to the concert, or those that do not need all four tickets, there is still an opportunity to be part of the “Family TVee.” Please return any tickets you will not need back to the JCC and we will provide an opportunity for families to attend that might otherwise be unable to afford the cost of a ticket. These advance sales “Family Tiw” sponsorships are available on a first-come, first serve basis. Please do not delay and miss your chance to participate in this exciting family event.
