^ » /•ft *. >*■}•»» - - » i» T* The Charlotte Jewish News - January, 1996 - Page 9 Sue Brodsky- Director CHS Plans Special Winter Programs By Sue Brodsky, Director “Tikun Olam HaYeladim’* (Repairing the Childrens’ World) will be the theme of the Consoli dated High School of Jewish Stud ies eighth and ninth grade retreat. The retreat, which is co-sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte, will be held January 27- 28,1996. All students will be asked to bring toiletry items to make Hy giene Packs, which will be donated to A Child’s Place, a school for homeless children. Other highlights of the week-end will be a perfor mance by “Heart to Heart”, a teen theatre group sponsored by the Bat tered Women’s Shelter. The perfor mance will focus on dating vio lence, and two of our CHS students, Jennifer Wysmuller and Bryan Crossan, are members of the cast. On Sunday afternoon, students will go out into the community to vol unteer their services at various lo cations, all of which serve children in Charlotte. Some of the agencies students will assist are: Alexander Children’s Home, Charlotte Emer gency Housing, Florence Crittendon Home, and A Child’s Place. Approximately 90 eighth and ninth graders are expected to par ticipate in the retreat, which will be held at Temple Israel and Temple Beth El. Two other special events are being planned for February. On February 7, 19%, all students will go to The Children’s Theatre to see a special performance of “The Di ary of Anne Frank”. A discussion led by Rabbi Bennett and Rabbi Ezring will follow. Also in Febru ary, students and parents will have the opportunity to participate in ‘Teen Israel”, a program to inform parents and high school students about Israel'experiences available for the summer of 1996. Co-spon sored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte, the program on Febrriary 28,1996, will be enhanced by informal talks with CHS students who participated in Israel summer programs during the summer of 1995.
