On Sunday, September 9, Sara Schreibman, President of the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte, spoke to the Bernstein Leadership Group about the ABC’s of Federation. She informed them that the Federation is the one place that belongs to every Jew, the place where phil anthropy, volun- teerism and shared commitment come together to make a difference, to repair the world. As part of a con tinent-wide system, federation has the capacity to reach every Jew in need with a social-service network unparalleled in the world. These resources and the experience and reach of its two preeminent over seas partners - the Jewish Agency for Israel and American Jewish Joint Distribution „ o , , ^ , , Penny Wagner-Scnuster and Committee - enable , ^ ^ i ■ } r- •; „ , . , . And it brings North American Jews into direct, personal, meaningful partnerships with the people of Israel through many innovative programs. Among them: Partnership 2000 community-to-community pro grams; birthright israel, providing free first-time trips to Israel for Jewish youth; OTZMA volunteer opportunities in Israel for recent college graduates, and much more. Each year the Federation Annual Campaign is the primary means of meeting the ongoing needs of the Jewish community local and worldwide. Your gift to our annual campaign is the best way to assist in the rescue of the imperiled, to care for the vulnera ble, to preserve Jewish identity through Jewish education and to strengthen our entire Jewish community. That same evening, the Bernstein Group was privileged to have three agencies give an overview of their orga nization and their role in the community as well as how Federation dollars benefit their organization. Penny Wagner-Schuster and Jeff Turk of Jewish Family Services (JFS) informed the group about the importance that JFS has in our community. JFS is committed to preserving, strengthening, and enhancing the quality of life for Jewish individu als and families. In response to those in need, Jewish Family Services provides a continuum of profes sional services in a supportive and confi dential environment. Members of the com munity in crises or struggling under the pressure of normal life transitions receive private, professional and caring attention. Mariashi Groner, Director and Gale Osborne, President of the Charlotte Jewish Day School (CJDS) enlightened us with infor mation about the special ways of learning at the CJDS that makes them a step above the rest. The facility may be less than attractive, but the learning and caring of our children is their number one prior ity. The school is dedicated to pro viding a school experience that is both enjoyable and challenging. Alan Feldman, Executive Director and Lane Ostrow, President of the Jewish Community Center (JCC) spoke about cultural diversity and how 1 + 1 = 3 Danny Siegel’s Latest Formula for Living the Good Life Please join the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte and the Bernstein Leadership Group as they welcome Danny Siegel to Charlotte on November 4 at 7:30 PM at the JCC. Danny is a well- known author, lectur er, and poet who has spoken in more than 200 North American Jewish communities, synagogues, Jewish Community Centers, Federations, and other communal organiza tions on tzedakah and Jewish values, besides reading from his own poetry.
