The Charlotte Jewish News -November 2001 - Page 17 Hadassah Gala Honors Audrey Madans This year’s Hadassah Donor Gala was a wonderful celebration for all who attended. The room at the Hyatt Southpark looked love ly, with bowls of fall flowers designed by Elizabeth House on all the tables. Rabbi Ezring gave a beautiful tribute to the evening’s honoree, Audrey Madans, in his invocation, and the food, from the hors d’oeuvres to the chocolate tuxedo cups filled with more chocolate mousse, was delicious. We were educated about the World Conference on Racism by Sybil Kessler, a policy associate for Hadassah National’s Israel, Zionist and International Affairs ORT Sponsors Candidates Forum The Crown City Chapter of Women’s American ORT, together with Temple Israel and the Women’s Division of Federation, sponsored an evening with candi dates for City Council on October 25 at Temple Israel. The audience was eager to learn more about the candidates and where they stood on the issues facing Charlotte. It was clear that Charlotte residents feel the forthcoming elections hold special interest for them and that this forum assisted them in making their decisions. ORT presents programs of interest over the year and invites new membership. Department, who spoke passion ately about her experiences in Durban, where she and several other Hadassah representatives defended our Zionism so nobly, but unfortunately were silenced and treated with so much disre spect that they walked out with the rest of the U.S. delegation. The best part of the evening was still to come. Audrey Madans friends and family gave a wonder ful tribute to Audrey for all her years of dedication to Hadassah and so many other causes. We were laughing along with our hon oree as friends Ruth Goldberg, Baila Pransky, Rhoda Gleiberman, Evelyn Berger, Susan Jacobs and Audrey’s son Craig shared stories of her dedication to so many caus es and her funny, crazy side which we all know and love. At the end Audrey spoke elo quently of Hadassah and its pro jects and why it is so important to her. Her words were an inspiration to all to continue Hadassah’s work throughout the world. A great deal of thanks goes to Heidi Rotberg, Madeline Arons, Adrienne Gossett, Ellie Bantit, Janice Bernstein and all the cap tains and volunteers who helped to make this year’s donor campaign and gala such a success. 4* Madeleine Aron, fund raising chair, and Heidi Rotberg, donor event chair.
