The Charlotte Jewish News -November 2001 - Page 3 Of CteEATER Qiarlotte Federation News An Evening with Dr. Ruth Westheimer is Rescheduled After much planning to avoid any conflicts, the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte has had to change its date for The Main Event, An Evening with Dr. Ruth Westheimer. The Super Bowl originally scheduled for January 27, has been changed to February 3, our original date. Our new date is Tuesday, February 5, 2002. As much as we tried to reschedule for h weekend date, we were unable to accommodate both Dr. Ruth’s schedule with our Jewish community’s calendar. We are calling upon all community members to make a special effort to support this event, which is key to our fundraising effort and which we know will be memo rable. Last year’s event was a huge success due in part to the Dr. Ruth Westheimer affordable ticket price of $36.00 per person. The price was set to appeal to all community members, giving them the opportunity to hear Professor Alan Dershowitz at a reasonable price. The tickets for this year’s event are also $36.00 each, and we know Dr. Ruth will give a sparkling talk to our com munity. Much excitement has already been generated for the event, which is being chaired by Stacy and Todd Gorelick. The mission of the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte is to create and build an organized and effective Jewish community able to address communal needs and fulfill our commitment to sup port Jews in need locally and worldwide. Through its alloca tions, the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte supports the programs and services of such agencies as the Jewish Community Center, Jewish Family Services, Charlotte Jewish Day School, the Charlotte Jewish Preschool, the Preschool on Sardis, the Consolidated High School of Jewish Studies, the Carolina Agency for Jewish Education, the Foundation of Shalom Park, the Blumenthal Jewish Home, B’nai B’rith Youth Organization, North Carolina Hillel, and the Anti-Defamation League. In addition, rent subsides for Shalom Park assist Temple Beth El, Temple Israel, the JCC and Charlotte Jewish Preschool. Approximately thirty percent of the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte’s allocations are used to support Jews in Israel and in sixty countries throughout the world.
