Haymond, Licensed Broker, NC & SC L’Dor V’Dor (From Generation to Generation) By Amalia Warshenbrot, Librarian, Speizman Jewish Library On November 16 the Speizman Jewish Library was honored at Temple Beth El and on the 17th at Temple Israel. Honoring an institution is greater than honoring the profes sional who serves it. It honors the people who visit there. When talking about a library it is about the people who borrow books and magazines. It puts the child who takes a holiday story in the same place as the college stu dent who writes a research paper. It welcomes the Temple member who checks out a cookbook and the new Jew by choice who seeks to expand his/her knowledge of Judaism. We thank the Rabbis of both Temples for their support. We appreciate the efforts of Temple Israel Library liaison Dr. Joe Steiner and Temple Beth El liaison Ginny Rosenberg for their efforts to promote the library. Supporting the library is supporting reading. Supporting the Speizman Jewish Library is supporting Jewish edu cation for all ages. The library was created for the purpose of provid ing Judaic resources to the mem bers of the Charlotte Jewish com munity as well as the community at large. The Microsoft Encarta book of knowledge gives the best defini tion for any library. “The central mission of a library is to collect, organize, preserve and provide access to knowledge and informa tion. In fulfilling this mission, libraries preserve a valuable record of culture that can be passed down to succeeding gener ations.” Libraries are an essential link in communication between past, pre sent and future. Our collection of about five thousand volumes is that link. It is a privilege to be able We Celebrated the Jewish Cultural Arts Festival For those of you who enjoyed the Cultural Arts Festival but did not purchase the books by those authors who were present or talked about, you are welcome to borrow these books from the Speizman Jewish Library during library hours or call us at 704-944-6763 to reserve a book. We can leave a book for you at the JCC front desk. Troubled Memory by Lawrence Powell Against the Tide by Harriet Keyserling Walking the Bible by Bruce Feiler Foods of Israel Today by Joan Nathan Most of the books written by Harry Golden and by Danny Siegel The books written by Danny Siegel were purchased thanks to donations to the Cheryl Katz Memorial Fund. We thank Ron and Ellie Katz for their donation in loving memory of A1 Rousso and Morris Roth. ^ to try to hold that link stable. The central mission as stated above is: A. To Collect. We expand the collection daily. Our criteria is that the books’ content or subject is Jewish. B. Organize. We are proud to have our collec tion on the database. It is cata logued by subject, author and title. With donations to the Friends of the Library campaign, we will improve it so that research will give the best possible results. C.
