Its initial enroll ment is expected to be approxi mately twelve students in a com bined grade six-seven. The Levins have endowed this new Jewish school with an initial grant of $250,000. They are estab lishing the school as a response to parents who want day school edu cation to go beyond the fifth grade. Since Charlotte Jewish Day School is not equipped to address this need, the new middle school will function as an independent entity. While the middle school does not yet have classroom space, there is a concerted effort underway to procure space in the Shalom Park area. Proximity to Charlotte Jewish Day School will allow for sharing of some teachers and extra-curricu lar activities. In both Judaic and secular stud ies the school will be committed to the highest level of state-of-the-art educational programs. The middle school will be modeled after the very successful Charlotte Jewish Day School, which has built a rep utation for developing well educat ed children who are proud and knowledgeable Jews. Middle School students who have not attended CJDS can be integrated into the Levin School. As plans materialize, they MiiW be publicized in The Charlotte Jewish News.
