The Charlotte Jewish News - February 2002 - Page 19 Jewish Family Services A, Jeff Turk Begins Two-Year Term as JFS Chairman By Marty Kelso Last month, Jeff Turk assumed his duties as Jewish Family Services’ Chairman of the Board and Executive Committee. He and new Vice-Chaic Amy Mullen will serve for the 2002-03 term. An active board member since 1998, Turk said he has always been impressed with the accom plishments of JFS, and he hopes to increase awareness of the agency’s programs and services. “While I think most people in the Jewish community have heaid of the good work of JFS, many are unclear about the particulars,” he commented. “Who does it serve? How many families benefit? What programs are available, and what programs should be developed to meet the needs of our growing community? I want the board to help make JFS more visible and accessible to all.” JejfTurk Turk said that he plans to fol low the standards of leadership set by the two previous JFS Chairs, Alan Goldberg and Marilyn Tuckman. “They made great strides in engaging the community in our mission, which is to provide guidance, counseling, and resources for our less fortunate Jewish neighbors,” he explained. “Now we must set our sights high er. It will begin with more feed back, and I intend to lead the board in finding out which ser vices are the most vital and which will benefit the greatest number of people in our area. “Above all, I admire the unique sense of compassion that guides this agency,” he continued. “The board members and staff care deeply about doing the best possi ble job for the families we serve. Our goal is to help JFS grow and expand in the coming years, and we’ll do it by continuing to build on a simple philosophy: where there’s compassion, there’s strength.” ^ Do You Need the Last Few Dollars for College?
