O Temple Israel Book Club Louisa by Simone Zelitch Monday, May 20, 7:45 PM at Temple Israel Immediately following the cel ebration of Shavuot, when the story of Ruth and'Naomi is read. Temple Israel’s May 20 book club discussion of Simone Zelitch’s Louisa will add a wonderful dimension to that beautiful holi day. Set in Hungary and Israel after the Second World War, this fascinating and moving novel tells the story of Nora, the Jewish mother — a survivor from Budapest, and her German Christian daughter-in-law, Louisa — both widows. The book has been described as “part love story, part detective tale, part history and part fable, compelling and com passionate.” Amalia Warshenbrot, librarian of the Speizman Jewish Library, an authority on Bible history and on the book of Ruth will lead the discussion. Amalia’s skills and knowledge provided much insight into The Red Tent, when it was featured at a book club meeting several years ago. What an enrich ing experience it will be to have her lead the Louisa discussion. Louisa is available at the public library at the Speizman Jewish Library or may be purchased at local bookstores or online for about $14. For additional informa tion, call Linda Levy, 704-366- 6362, or Sandra Hirschman, 704- 867-7051.
