The Charlotte Jewish News - June/July 2002 - Page 1S ^ • • 1 • I ''' 1 1 2002 Friends Campaign: Essential to the Future of JFS As a member of Charlotte’s Jewish community, you have like ly been contacted by Jewish Family Services to pledge your support for the agency’s Annual Friends Campaign. You may ask: Does my donation really make a difference? And where exactly does the money go? Now more than ever, the sup port of the community ensures the future success of JFS. A major por tion of the agency’s operating bud get is funded through the generos ity of contributors to the Friends Campaign. The demand for JFS services is at an all-time high, and program costs continue to go up. In 2001, JFS assisted more than 2,000 families and individuals- nearly double the number served the previous year. There was a 28% increase in counseling ses sions for children, families, and older adults. Visits to the JFS Food Pantry increased as well, rising from 350 contacts to over 500 dur ing the past year. The money raised through the Friends Campaign helps to fund all of these essential programs and services. With a sufficient budget, the trained and licensed staff of JFS can continue to serve Jewish individuals and families in need, regardless of clients’ ability to pay. Donations from the community keep many programs and services alive and well. Among them: * Food Pantry: In times of cri sis, individuals may access the pantry for food, toiletries, and other necessary items for day-to- day living. * Meals on Wheels: JFS deliv ered 250 home cooked meals to needy families and individuals last year. * Jewish Connection: Through visits and outreach, this program enables homebound individuals and residents in senior facilities to remain actively connected to the Jewish community. * Family Life Education Workshops: Programs touch on such vital topics as parenting ado lescents, caring for aging parents. This is only a sampling of the JFS programs and services avail able to families in need. Charlotte’s Jewish community has recognized the value of JFS, and has helped the agency attain its Campaign goal year after year. In these uncertain financial times, when many non-profit organiza tions suffer severe budget cuts and often must close their doors, it’s especially important to keep JFS operating at the level on which clients have come to depend. Consider your donation an investment in an insurance policy. We never know what tomorrow may bring, and we never know when we may need assistance, either emotional or financial. When we “insure” that JFS will be here in the future, it’s a smart long term investment. This year’s Friends Campaign goal is $150,000, and it can be met with community-wide support. Through contributions large and small. JFS donors make a state ment: each life is sacred, and eveiy individual and family deserves the chance to be self-sufficient. Kol Tisrael Araveem Ze L’Ze.
