The Charlotte Jewish News - May 2002 - Page 25 Maccabiah/Sports for Israel/Jewish Community Center Golf Tournament Results The 15th annual Maccabiah/ Sports for Israel/Jewish Community Center Golf Tournament was held at Raintree Country Club on an absolutely beautiful spring-like day on April 29. 102 golfers came to participate in this annual special event. Sponsored by The Hartford Insurance and Travelers Insurance and under the expert leadership of co-chairs Alan Rosenberg and David Van Glish, the tournament featured the players participating in a “shot-gun” start on the chal lenging south course. Players played “captains choice/best ball” throughout the event. The winning team featured Lane Ostrow, Adi Khindaia, Chris Berry and Mike Crowder, the second place team consisted of Gary Silverstein, Mike Littauer, Shel Goldstein and Morey Sheffer and the third place team included Ron Clemmer, Jim Shaw, Buddy Roberts and Stuart Roberts. In addition to the great turnout of golfers this year, there was ter rific participation both from a sponsorship standpoint and a prize standpoint. June 20: Field trip to Charlotte Farmers Market on Yorkmont Road where a nice selection of fresh produce, bedding plants, crafts, jams, jellies, and more are to be found. We’ll dine locally, and then visit the market. We'll leave the JCC at 11:00 AM. Transportation is $2.00. June 24, 1:00-2:00 PM: Sue Klein, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Public Library’s Outreach Coordinator will present “Man’s Best Friends,” a multi-media pre sentation. June 27: Lunch and a Flick - For those of us who love the movies, we’ll do lunch and catch the show. Movie will be selected the week of the trip. Transportation is $2.00. June 28, 1:00-2:00 PM: Nora Black, Architect will discuss “Experiencing Charlotte Architecture; Old and New.” ^ Clutch,” to Michael Grey of MGB Accessories Inc. for his generous donation of Nike sun glasses, to Golf Charlotte for their generous donation of a golf bag, to Louis Sinkoe of Famous Mart for his generous donation of golf umbrellas and last, but - certainly not least to Maccabi USA Sports for Israel for their generous donation of wind- breakers and coffee mugs. Our “closest to the pin” circle contest on hole #2 attracted almost 90 of the golfers and helped raise additional monies for the event. Thank you once again to Sam Strause for the concept and follow-up. Thanks to Maria Davidson, Anne Sinsheimer, Daphne Williams and Randy Czarlinsky for their help on this hole and a very special thanks to Donald Jacobs for his sales manship and good humor despite the injury. Many “thank yous” to the tour nament volunteers for all of their time and efforts including Bernice Roberts, Linda Sloan, Denise Whitney and staff from Sunrise Assisted Living on Providence David Epstein swings away.
