him the first lifetime board mem
ber at the end of his term.
A lot has changed during the
twelve years since Alan joined the
board. First, the demand for JFS
services, based on the number of
individuals helped each year,
increased by 685%. At the same
time, the generous Jewish com
munity has increased their finan
cial support by 580% providing
the means to care for these grow
ing needs. However, the crowning
event has been has been the con
struction of new JFS facilities at
Shalom Park into which the
organization has recently moved.
Alan has been deeply involved in
the planning and design of this
structure.
In Alan’s early career, he
served in the armored forces dur
ing WW II with General George
S. Patton, Jr.’s Third Army. After
being discharged from the army,
he attended Tufts College and
received a B.S. in Chemistry.
Subsequently, he received an

MBA from Wharton Graduate
School.
Alan moved from Eastchester,
New York to Charlotte in 1962
with his wife Ruth and their two
sons, Michael and Jonathan.
Charlotte became his new home
with his time concentrated on his
family, Temple Israel and the
Jewish Community. Jewish
Family Services has been of spe
cial interest to him and he is proud
of being able to contribute to the
growth of the organization. ^
