The Charlotte Jewish News -December 2006- Page 6 Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte Allocates $2,816,801 to Help Jews in Charlotte, Israel and Worldwide The Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte is a family. Even if we don’t all know each other, we take care of each other. This is the Jewish way. We invest in our children. We demand jus tice for those who cannot advocate for themselves. We make certain our elderly have the best care pos sible. And when our fellow Jews are in crisis, we are there. Serving as an umbrella for the Charlotte Jewish community, the Federation carefully examines local and overseas priority needs and allocates accordingly. Because Federation giving touch es so many lives, one gift is maxi mized to support many programs that ensure a strong vibrant Jewish community. Allocations decisions, while reflecting Jewish values, are a function of available resources, needs in the community, the expertise of a long-term relation ship with Federation agencies and other partners. The allocations process is one of the primary func tions the Federation fills in plan ning for the emerging and future needs of our community. Under the leadership of Daniel Levine and Judi Strause and their tireless committee, this year, we were able to allocate $2,816,801* to help build and maintain Jewish conti nuity, and to protect the interests of the Jewish people in Charlotte, in Israel and worldwide. The largest portion of the money remains here in our local community where everyone fi’om the smallest preschooler to the elderly, and everyone in between, directly experiences your gift to the Federation. The remaining 30% of donations goes to Israel and Overseas needs. Our Charlotte community is able to designate $201,000 to meet the specific needs of Jews in the for mer Soviet Union, Argentina and Israel as well as assist our Partnership community of Hadera-Eiron. The Federation thanks board members, community leaders and all others who have solicited countless contributions and attended numerous events and meetings. Thank you to the Jewish community. Your values inspire us. Your strength empowers us. You are our family...giving to others, taking responsibility and acting with loving kindness. Thank you for living generously - It does a world of good. *This amount includes campaign shrinkage and operational surplus allocation.
