This was the first menorah parade to ever enter Union County. At the ice rink, families enjoyed skating, then sang Chanukah songs and feasted on latkes and hot cocoa, as a large menorah was lighted on the ice. This wonderful event will always be remem bered by participants and observers alike. Not only do the children look forward to a weekend full of play, but now they also await a weekly Shabbat celebration. “Shabbat Send-ofF’ includes the three- and four-year-old classes at the school and comes with plenty of songs, dances and prayers to usher in Shabbat. One child from each class is hono’^ed every week, and each plays a special part in the fun. Parents of those children are invited to attend, and each one goes home with a Shabbat bag. Children can spend Shabbat set ting their own Shabbat table and enjoying a Shabbat story. Morah Jayme Kreitman leads the Shabbat honorees each ’week at JPS. Moshe Weiss, Hannah Schwartz, Mushka Vorst and Ava Cohen get ready to say the Hamotzi. “We wanted to do something this year for the children that ended the week and paved the way for Shabbat on a special note,” says JPS Director Fern Sanderson. “What a perfect way to celebrate our accomplishments from the week and get ready for some time with our families. The smiling faces and the children’s enthusiasm bring the spirit of Shabbat to our school long before sundown each Friday.” David Taback and Jordan Brown are the special Shabbat Send-off guests.
