This main theme will be explored by featured speaker Rabbi Joseph Telushkin at the Jewish Federation’s Main Event on Sunday, February 11, at 7 PM, at Temple Israel. Named one of Talk Magazine's best 50 speakers in the United States, Rabbi Telushkin is a best-selling author and expert on Jewish teachings and values. In his talk entitled, “The Twenty-First Century: A Jewish Vision, One Day at a Time,” Rabbi Telushkin promises to offer a thought-provoking, stimulating evening at what has become the largest Jewish community gather ing each year. Those attending will have an opportunity to make their annual gift to the Jewish Federation’s 2007 Annual Campaign. A special drawing will be held during the Main Event when campaign donors will have a chance to win a magnificent glass ball donated by Abe and Rose Luski. “This year we are making a special effort to reach out to and involve all elements of our Jewish community in order to fully reflect the diversity that the Federation represents,” said Event Chairs Aly Rabbi Joseph Telushkin and Eric Lemer. Rabbi Telushkin’s book Jewish Literacy: The Most Important Things to Know about the Jewish Religion, Its People and Its History is one of the most widely selling books on Judaism of the past two decades. His newest book, A Code of Jewish Ethics: You Shall be Holy, explores Jewish teachings on the vital top ics of personal character and integrity. Ordained at Yeshiva University in New York, Rabbi Telushkin pursued his graduate studies in Jewish history at Columbia University. He lectures throughout the United States, serves as a Senior Associate of CLAL, on the Board of Directors of the Jewish Book Council, and as spiritual leader of the Synagogue for the Performing Arts in Los Angeles. O .e’i lEWISH^ ^ FEDEFiATION' Local Global, Eternal 37 New Bernstein Leaders Announced The Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte and co-chairs Jen Algire and Laura Cherny are pleased to announce the new members of the Bernstein Leadership Group. After a com prehensive review process, 37 applicants were selected to partic ipate. “We are delighted that there was such a strong applicant pool this year,” says Don Bernstein, who sponsors the BLG with his wife, Bobbi. “We hope this group of potential leaders will have a meaningful impact on our Jewish community in the coming years, and we wish them an enlightening and rewarding experience over the next 18 months.” The first BLG session will be on Sunday, January 21. After a kickoff dinner and opening pro gram, comedian Joel Chasnoff will entertain the group with a stand-up routine. All Bernstein alumni are invited to attend this performance, which is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. in Gorelick Hall.
