Jewish Federation Lion of Judah Event The Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte honored its thirty-five Lions of Judah on Tuesday, January 9 at a lunch eon at Ruth’s Chris Steak House. On behalf of herself and her Lion of Judah co-chair Barbara Levin, Mary Wojnowich welcomed Lions and their guests to the event entitled “It’s Not Just Another Piece of Jewelry.” Stacy Gorelick introduced the program by saying, “The Lion of Judah pin is definitely not ‘just another piece of jewel ry.’ It is an internationally rec ognized symbol of women’s philanthropy. It symbolizes a woman’s choice to share her blessings with Jews all over the world who need our help and who we have not forgotten. Wearing our pin is a proud way of saying “Acharai ~ Follow Me.’” Jill Newman, Federation Past President, receives recognition plaque for being the Charlotte recipient of the 2007 Kipnis- Wilson/Friedland award, from Sue Worrel, Executive Director. Special guest speaker Iris Feinberg, incoming Campaign Chair of the Atlanta Jewish Federation, shared a moving story with the group. While participating in a mission to Israel during the war in August, Iris presented Kamit Goldwasser, wife of the kid napped soldier, her Lion of Judah pin. This highly publi cized moment came about when Kamit asked Iris about the beautiful pendant she and oth ers in the group were wearing. Iris immediately took off her necklace, put it around Kamit’s neck, and told her that she would now be supported and surrounded by the worldwide love and support of 16,000 Lions of Judah. In keeping with the theme of the event, Jane Rabinovitz, certified gemologist and owner of Jane’s Gems, was invit ed to display some of the latest trends in jewelry design. Our Lions of Judah are the heart of our annu al Women’s Division campaign and as we enter into our 2007 cam paign season we proudly welcome three new lions to our community: Amy Augustine, (Continued on page 31) PUT YOUR MONEY TO WORK FOR YOU DOES YOUR COMPANY PARTICIPATE IN A CHARITABLE MATCHING GIFT PROGRAM?
