JYDA is the Organization for Conservative Jewish Youth Directors and Youth Group Advisors. Temple Israel’s Youth Director, Jason Cathcart, was elected to a two-year term as the National President for JYDA. Jason previously served as treas urer for the organization. Jason is looking forward to raising the awareness to the Jewish commu nity to the importance of this pro fession and the impact Jewish youth programming has on its par ticipants. JYDA provides conven tions and workshops that train Youth Directors and Advisors in Jason Cathcart group work skills, Judaic knowl edge, child development, and developing creative and diverse programming. Congratulations to Jason on his new position. ■> Tennis Champ Ranked #50 in State Will Goldberg, 13, an 8th grad er at South Charlotte Middle School, participated in the RCC Tennis Tournament in Gastonia, NC in January. Will, was the no. 1 seed in the Boys 14s division. He won his three matches leading up to the final, 6-0, 6-0, 6-1 6-0, 6-2 6-1. Due to inclement weather, the tournament had to cancel many of the finals on the last day of the tournament. Will is currently ranked #50 in the Boys 14s divi sion of the NC-USTA rankings. This was Will’s first tournament of the new year and first since he lost his fnend Taylor Chitty in the new year’s day plane crash in Charlotte that killed Taylor, his brother and his parents. Will and Taylor were fnends and rivals on the tennis courts for four years. They also were doubles partners If Will Goldberg and roomed together at Furman University tennis camp. In honor of his friend, Will is wearing his initials (TC) on the back of his tennis shoes.
