Congregation Havurat Olam is now entering its fourth year as the first Jewish congrega tion in the University City/Cabamis region. Havurat Olam is a welcoming community that meets in Concord for relaxed, friendly services and social events. The congregation offers religious school and b’nai mitzvah training as well as adult education programs. Havurat Olam welcomes Jewish and interfaith families and individuals. The congrega tion encourages its members to help determine the shape of every service and every cele bration, to become involved in outreach and social action, and to explore their spiritual needs and individual relationship to Judaism in a safe and supportive setting. Congregation Havurat Olam is an independent Jewish congregation that seeks to create a community that is comfortable and welcoming for area Jews, but also active and involved in the world we live in. Currently, Congregation Havurat Olam offers two Friday night services a month led by rab binic intern Dr. Barbara Thiede. Second Fridays feature a student- centered and child-friendly serv ice rich with music and stories. Fourth Fridays offer an adult-ori ented service including a Torah reading, sermon, and music. All services begin at 7 PM. This year, Havurat Olam will again offer High Holiday services, including Erev Rosh Hashanah and Rosh Hashanah daytime services on September 12 and 13 and Kol Nidre, Yom Kippur, and Neilah on September 21 and 22. For more information, please visit our website at www.havura- tolam.org or call 704-784-4616. 4* Levine-Sklut Judaic Library and Resource Center Levine-Sklut Judaic Library and Resource Center Represented at National Convention Amalia Warshenbrot, the librarian at the Levine-Sklut JLRC has just returned from Scottsdale, AZ, where the Association of Jewish Libraries (AJL) held its 42nd annual convention. This is the eigh teenth year that the Charlotte librarian has participated in this professional conference. “This event is such a won derful opportunity for profes sional development,” says Amalia Warshenbrot. “I attend ed sessions on writing book reviews, new publications for religious schools education, especially teaching about Israel and more academic presenta tions. Presenters and fellow librarians from across the world shared so much useful knowledge that will ultimately benefit the Levine-Sklut JLRC.” Amalia Warshenbrot also shared her own expertise, lead ing a roundtable discussion Amalia Warshenbrot receiving the advanced accreditation certificate at the convention of the Association of Jewish libraries in Scottsdale, AZ. She is also active on the Accreditation Committee and Publications Committee of AJL, giving back to the organization that has been such a helpful resource for her own library. “We at the Levine-Sklut JLRC are so proud of Amalia Warshenbrot for her dedication to her profession” says Jenny Stem, chairperson of the JLRC board. “Her volunteer participa tion in the Association of Jewish Libraries convention brings national prestige to the Levine- Sklut JLRC library. The Levine- Sklut JLRC is the richer for becoming a part of the Jewish library community.” The library is AJL-accredited on the advanced level.
