Suite' 205 704.377.2503 Sandra & Leon Levine JCC Maccabi Games Award Winners The Sandra & Leon Levine JCC’s Sports and Fitness Department is very happy to announce the winners of the 2007 JCC Maccabi Games awards, presented this year during the annual Team Charlotte’s reunion party this past October. Adam Levinson and Alex Widis are the recipi- ^ r-. , , ents of the prestigious Brooks Corcoran (center) .v.th h,s parents, Deborah Harold Josephson Award. This award, established in 1998 at the JCC Maccabi Games hosted in Charlotte and named in memory of an outstanding leader and gentleman from our Charlotte Jewish community, is presented annually to a member or members of the Charlotte JCC Maccabi Games delegation who demon strates tremendous fortitude despite adversity and who displays the perseverance to achieve goals that appear unattainable. Previous winners have included: Matt Manes, Mitchell Gartner, Brett Robert Widis with his daughter, Alex. Strumwasser, Courtney Rosenberg, Michael Murray, Rebecca Raphael, Alan Platock the boys in line hockey team from 2005 (Harry Bergmann, Jonathan, Cohen, Matthew Laxer, Matt Lepow, Zach Maniloff and Kyle Schumer) and 2006 adult coach es/chaperones Larry Brown, Aree Pearlman and Dan Vizzini. For the fifth year in a row, a newer award for the JCC Maecabi Games program in Charlotte was also pre sented. Named in memo ry of Amy Beth Rosenberg, former Associate Director of the JCC Maccabi Games who very sadly and very suddenly passed away in the spring of 2003 at the age of 36 and who was one of the key continen tal staff insuring the suc cess of the JCC Maccabi Games for many previ ous years, the award is presented annually to a member or members of the Charlotte JCC Maccabi Games delegation who displays “extra ordinary” behavior while participating at the annual JCC Maccabi Games. The winner of this award for 2007 is Brooks Corcoran, joining previous Rosenberg award winners E lyssa lagnocco, Jeffrey Goldsmith, Matt Gershen, Aaron Zucker, Dayna Katz, Sarah Platock, Alex Widis and Amanda Widis. Alex Widis is a Junior at Providence Day School and has been involved with Maccabi for the past three years. She has played both field hockey (two years) and soccer (four years) for her school and has played soccer club level ball for the past seven years. Alex is the daughter of Rdbert & Jeanie Widis and David Hansen 8c Emily Chatham. Adam Levinson is a sophomore at Myers Park HS and has participated in the JCC Maccabi Games for the past three years as a golfer, baseball player and tennis play er. He is the son of Holly and Hal Levinson. And last, but cer tainly not least. Brooks Corcoran is a junior at North Mecklenburg HS who has also been involved with the JCC Maccabi Games for all four of his eligible years. Brooks has been swimming competitively for eleven years and he is going to compete in the eleventh Pan American Maccabi Games in Argentina over the 2007-2008 Holly. Adam, and Hal Levinson. Christmas break. Brooks hopes to be able to compete in the Maecabiah Games in Israel during the summer of 2009. Donating an Old Cell Phone Can Save a Life Shalom Bayit-NC, in con junction with the North Carolina Women’s Commission, is collecting cell phones for victims - or poten tial victims - of domestic vio lence. Old, used and unwanted cell phones will be repro grammed to call 911 and used in the event of an emergency. Donating is as simple as drop ping the cell phone and battery charger (in a plastic bag, if possible) at the reception desks of the following locations: Levine Jewish Community Center, Congregation Ohr Hatorah, Temple Beth El, Temple Israel, Jewish Family Services.
