Where do the 2008 presidential con tenders stand on the issues important to Jewish voters and Israel? What is the Jewish agen da? How important is the Jewish vote? What is the role and impact of Jews in American politics in the 21st Century? Syndicated Columnist, Washington lobbyist and con sultant Doug Bloomfield will be here in Charlotte to speak to the upcoming elections and how we as Jews are affected by all candidates. His weekly column about the Washington scene and U.S. - Mideast policy appears in numerous American newspa pers and many foreign publica tions. He is the president of Bloomfield Associates, Inc., a Washington lobbying and con sulting firm. Bloomfield spent nine years as the legislative director and ’ chief lobbyist for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). In this position, he was responsible for developing and guiding strategy on Capitol Hill to secure more than $3 bil lion in annual military and eco nomic aid for Israel, and strengthening US-Israel rela tions. As the World Jewish Congress representative in Washington, he helped coordi nate the Swiss banks, Nazi gold investigations, -and U.S. Government support for restitu tion of Jewish properties seized by former Nazi and Communist regimes. In addition to writing his col umn, Bloomfield appears fre quently on national and interna tional radio and television as a political analyst and was the host of the Washington televi sion program- “Jewish News in Review.” He is a Capitol Hill veteran who served as a senior advisor to Congressman Benjamin S. Rosenthal of New York and a legislative assistant and speech writer for Senator Hubert H. Humphrey. Prior to that, he was on the editorial staff of the Cleveland (Ohio) Plain Dealer.
