As I grew up, 1 was inspired by my grandfather’s generosity and became aware of what one indi vidual could do for others. I help because it makes me feel good. 1 have always tried to live a life where Tikkun Olam has been an important part of who I am. If I can help “repair the world” in some small way, I feel I have lived a life in which I can be proud. I also hope that as 1 was inspired by my grandfather, I can also be that role model for my children. How docs JFS make a differ ence? I look at JFS as a gateway for individuals in the Jewish commu nity. JFS is here for you when you want to give or you need to receive at any stage of one’s life. At anytime of life, we could all be on either side of this equation. JFS bridges our community so there are people helping other people. Of all the organizations that you could choose to be involved with, why did you choose JFS? I was aware of JFS while living in South Florida. My sister-in-law is the Clinical Director of JFS in West Palm Beach, and I was able to witness what an incredible organization it is. No matter what your life circumstance may be, JFS is there to lend a warm heart and a helping hand. I was honored when I moved to Charlotte and asked to be a Board member of this incredible organization. Nancy Tarbis, Volunteer Extraordinaire What does JFS mean to you? JFS means Jews helping other Jews who need special sup port at a difficult time in their life. Why is JFS important to the Charlotte Jewish community? JFS is a place that anyone in the Jewish community can confide in and know they will receive uncon ditional help and support. Why do you help? 1 began helping many years ago when I was asked to drive a person to the grocery and doctor’s appointments. This person didn’t drive, lived alone and needed friendship. Now, many years later, 1 still take her places along with several other people. I do this because there are a lot of people who need that service. But, in the process of helping, I have learned so much from each person that I help. The feeling they give me, when they thank me for doing for them, is indescribable. Just to know that you have helped some one in such a valuable way is just one way to feel very good about yourself. And it is such an easy thing to do. We all take for grant ed the things in life that we do every day; that many of these peo ple are not able to do. If each one would help one what a wonderful world this would be. How docs JFS make a differ ence? JFS makes a difference in each person’s life that they help. They either provide a meal; transporta tion, help finding a job, help while out of work, mental health help, or companionship for a lonely per son. That can be the difference between a person getting back on their feet or perhaps becoming homeless. Of all the organizations that you could choose to be involved with, why did you choose JFS? It was a way for me to help in the Jewish community as I learned from my family and follow in my family’s footsteps. 4* j JFS Volunteer Shout-Out i J F YOU! □ Volunteer with IT expertise in the implementation I of database system.
