The Charlotte Jewish News - February 2008 - Page 5 Jewish Federation Honors Major Donors The Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte honored its major donors on Thursday, December 13 at a reception and dinner held in the Sam Lemer Center for Cultural Arts. Cary Bernstein, co-chair of the Major Gift Campaign, welcomed the guests and introduced the evening by saying, “Tonight, we turn our attention to ‘The Living Bridge’ and our connec tion to Jews around the world. Our goal for the evening is to bring the community which lives outside of Charlotte and Shalom Park closer to you, and to help you understand how our Federation campaign directly impacts the lives of these Jews living in Israel and around the world. In particular we want to bring you closer to Hadera, our partnership community in Israel.” Guest speakers Jennifer Kraft, Director of Community Relations at the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, and Fenta Demoze, t t ^ Nancy Kipnis, speaker ^ Jen Kraft, Tracy Brown and Stacv Gorelick. i i I I i Coordinator of the Ethiopian National Project Youth Outreach Center in Hadera, brought the overseas communi ty and the work of United Jewish Communities’ overseas partners closer to our donors. “Whether at home, in Israel or in any of the worldwide Jewish communities that we support, we serve Jews in need, promote Jewish identity and provide Jewish education for our children and our grandchil dren,” said Alan Kronovet, co chair of Major Gifts. He contin ued, “Charlotte is very fortunate to have a very direct and per sonal connection to Hadera, our partnership city in Israel. Since 2000, over 100 members of our community have traveled to Hadera and over 60 people from Alan Kronovet, guest speaker Fente Demoze, and Cary Bernstein. their city have visited us here. Hundreds in both communities have been touched by the living bridge we have created.” Alan invited the donors to view a spectacular series of posters created especially for the event which visually convey the pro grams and services that Federation dollars fund in Hadera. Major donors are those who contribute a minimum of $10,000 to the Annual Campaign. In 2007, 71% of the campaign dollars raised were contributed through the gen erosity of major donors. 2008 Annual Campaign Chair Eric Lemer reports that to date four new major donors have made > commitments to the 2008 cam- i paign.
