The Charlotte Jewish News - March 2008 - Page 17 A Fresh Look for Jewish Film Festival As with many of the major film and art festivals around the coun try, the Charlotte Jewish Film Festival has begun the tradition of creating yearly festival posters. The 2008 poster is artistic, whim sical and thoughtful. “The com mittee is thrilled with the results of our poster,” says* festival Co- Director Debby Block. “It evokes the perfect blend of Judaism, film and humor.” The Charlotte Jewish Film Festival would like to thank White Rhino Productions for sponsoring and creating an out standing festival poster. The first Charlotte Jewish Film Festival poster has been featured on all festival promotional materi als and is on sale throughout the festival for $5. A new poster will be designed to commemorate the festival each year. Don’t miss out on the inaugural edition — start your collection today. This year’s array of festival films are quite varied encompass ing multiple film genres. From shorts to feature length, dramas to comedies- there is sure to be something for everyone. For a full schedule of film showings, visit www.charlottejewishfiIm.com. Here are just a few of the fantastic films you can expect this year: There will be a repeat screening of Rape of Europa at the Levine Jewish Community Center on Thursday, March 6 at 1 PM. Did you miss this incredible documen tary last month? Here is your chance to see what people are rav ing about across the country—an engrossing account of what hap pened to Europe’s artistic master pieces during World War II. Thursday evening, March 6 at 7 PM at Ballantyne Village Theatre, audiences will be treated to Riki Riki, an off-beat comedy about relationships that won Best Film at the World of Comedy International Film Festival 2005. They will also enjoy a short comedic documentary called My Nose. Gayle is comfortable with her “above average sized^ pro boscis,” but her meddling mother keeps insisting that a nose job is necessary. Following the showing of Riki Riki and My Nose, young adults from all over Charlotte are invited to Flix & Mix, a social mixer fea turing wine and desserts at Salara Dessert Lounge and Bistro, also in Ballantyne Village. There is a sep arate cover charge for the Mixer. Reservations can be made by vis iting www.charlottejewishfilm. com; space is limited. The closing night of the fourth annual Charlotte Jewish Film Festival is Saturday, March 8 at 7:30 PM at Ballantyne Village Theatre. Our feature film will be Sixty-Six. It is the summer of ‘66, and England is consumed by World Cup Fever. For twelve- year-old Bemie, the biggest day of his life is looming: his Bar Mitzvah and the day he becomes a man. However, Bemie’s family is increasingly distracted by the threat of losing their business and their wayward older son. The scale of Bemie’s Bar Mitzvah diminishes daily. Worst of all, the Cup Final is scheduled to take place on the same day as the Bar Mitzvah. When England makes it through the qualifying rounds, Bernie’s longed-awaited Bar Mitzvah looks set to be a com plete disaster. The Charlotte Jewish Film Festival is pleased to present these and other quality films that illumi nate global Jewish experiences. One for All Ball Saturday, September 6, Westin Charlotte The fourth annual One For All Ball to benefit the Sandra and Leon Levine Jewish Community Center, Temple Israel and Temple Beth El will be held on September 6 once again at the Westin Hotel.
