The Charlotte Jewish News -June-July 2008 - Page 11 Schloss Summer Lecture The Olympics: Watch? Join us for our 6 PM Summer Service and stay for dinner at 7 PM ($10 per person). Dinner will be followed by Dr. Shelley Rigger, Professor of East Asian Politics at Davidson College, 7:30-8:30 PM, the Schloss Summer Lecturer of 2008. This summer’s Olympics in Beijing are a hot topic of discus sion not only for sports fans, but for activists and political analysts as well. Our summer Schloss Lecture, on Friday, July 11, will explore the human rights abuses in China that are filling the headlines of our papers. On this topic, respected Rabbis Yitz Greenberg and Haskel Lookstein recently wrote: “It remains our view that it would be unconscionable for Jews to go and enjoy the Olympics and help China gain international respectability when it is enabling Sudan’s genocide, oppressing Tibet, and providing military assistance to Iran and Syria, and befriending Hamas.” Temple Beth El’s New Board of Directors On May 12, during the annual meeting held at the Temple, the new officers and board of directors were elected.
