The Charlotte Jewish News - June-July 2008 - Page 13 New Leadership at FCJC By Alan Kronovet This month I assume the presi dency of the Foundation for the Charlotte Jewish Community (FCJC). I am following in the footsteps of my good friend and long time community leader Rich Osborne. Rich served as the President of FCJC for the past two years and as he outlined in his arti cle last month it was an action packed two years. The FCJC has benefited from Rich’s leadership and I look forward to his contin ued involvement and friendship over the next two years. As the FCJC has evolved so has its focus in accomplishing its mis sion. The addition of Phil Warshauer as our full time Executive Director was an impor tant first step in our development. Over the next two years the focus of FCJC will be three fold. First, FCJC will continue to serve as the community liaison with the Foundation For. The Carolinas (FFTC) working with FFTC to ensure proper stewardship of the over $40 million entrusted to FCJC by our community agencies and individual members of the Charlotte Jewish community. Second, FCJC is a resource. When individuals or agencies have ques tions about establishing endow ments, donor advised funds and estate planning FCJC has the knowledge and experience to pro vide support to-the organizations and individuals that comprise our community. Our third focus will be on the growth of our planned giving program. My primary focus for the next two years will be to grow the funds held at FCJC for the benefit of the agencies of our community. The importance of the growth of planned giving can not be under estimated. As the services provid ed by the agencies expand to meet the increasing demand of our com munity the need for long term Wachovia and Bank America Show Support for the Charlotte Jewish Community The One for All Ball Steering Committee is pleased to announce that both Wachovia and Bank of America will be lead sponsors for the upcoming One for All Ball to be held on September 6 at the Westin Hotel. “The support from these important Charlotte institu tions is a testament to both bank’s commitment to the Jewish com munity and to our honorees, the William and Shelton Gorelick families” said Roni Fishkin, chair of the OFAB Steering Committee. Once again, The One» for All Ball, which is held every other year, will be the largest central fundraiser for the Jewish commu nity. This cooperative endeavor demonstrates the community spir it that lives at Shalom Park. The fundraising goal for 2008 is $250,000. The Herman Blumenthal Commitment to Community award created as a tribute to Herman Blumenthal to memorial ize his legacy of gen- -c A i erosity and devotion to ^ our community will be I \ ^ presented to the William and Shelton ^ ^ Gorelick Families for ^ ^ their significant con tributions to Charlotte and leadership within the Jewish community. The Gorelick families’ involvement and passionate com mitment to the Jewish community embodies the legacy that Mr. Blumenthal strived to create. Both families have played an integral role in the Jewish commu nity. Shelton served as president of both the Foundation of Shalom Park and the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte. He plays lead ership roles at Carolinas Medical Center and the Mint Museum and is involved in a variety of other volunteer endeavors. financing becomes more critical to ensure the viability of these serv ices. A key tool to be utilized by FCJC toward this effort will be to convene monthly Endowment Educational Sessions where com munity agencies get together to discuss the process of developing planned giving efforts. The first of these meetings was held in April and we look forward to the contin ued participation of our communi ty leaders. Another key tool will be for Phil and representatives of FCJC and the community agencies to meet one on one with donors to let them know about the great work being done in the communi ty and to determine opportunities for them to provide long term financing to ensure that these pro grams continue. These meetings will be about opening a dialogue between our donors and our community agen cies. We hope to learn more about each other during this process. With the assistance of FCJC, and in coordination with FFTC, we will also help to educate donors about the many creative ways that they can help to create a legacy that will support our Jewish com munity. I am looking forward to the next two years and the opportuni ties we have to secure a stable fmance future for our community.
