With summer’s end, the Havurat Tikvah families get together to share our travels, to catch up with friends, and to see who met the Summer Challenge to meet someone new. We hope that everyone in the Charlotte Jewish community had the chance to wel come someone into their lives whom they did not know before the summer began. To share our stories, Havurat Tikvah will depart from our famil iar Saturday morning service, and on August 8, we will hold a Friday evening service at 7:30 PM. We will usher in Shabbat with Kabbalat Shabbat and Ma’ariv service followed by an Oneg. On August 9, we will observe our Tisha B’Av service at 7:30 PM, with a brief Havadalah and Ma’ariv service for those who wish to observe Kaddish, and readings from Lamentations including a discussion of the meaning of the 9th of Av through history. Each year Havurat Tikvah cele brates Tisha B’Av, and each year our service has a unique and indi vidual flavor. The various partici pants add to each year’s service, and make each year a new perspective, a new experience and a new oppor tunity to meditate on the meaning of the many sor rows that the Jewish people have suffered throughout the centuries. May we as Jews all find our own solace in the sorrow and the reconciliation of our historical experience, of the many painful touch points with our people and the larger world that will lead to a new and deeper meaning of our shared co-existence. We all live in this world and it is not defined by any one of us, as groups or as indi viduals. We live together in the world, we must co-exist in the world. We share a common fate, and our hope is that it is one of ultimate peace and co-existence. We welcome you to our warm and friendly services, a relaxed family atmosphere in which all Jews can feel comfortable, and guests are always welcome. Havurat Tikvah is an affiliate of the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation - please feel free to visit www.jrforg and click on Jewish Reconstructionist Federation Reconstructionist Judaism to learn more about us.
