Each year the New Year season
brings with it a renewal of pur
pose. As I sat in shul praying dur
ing High Holidays services this
year, I wondered the same thought
that I do every year at this time.
What is it that draws so many
Jews to the synagogue for the hol
idays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom
Kippur? What is it about these two
holidays that like a magnet,

attracts hundreds of persons to
synagogue who would otherwise
not be in attendance?
I believe the holiday
draws forth the individ
ual’s need for a commu
nal sense of purpose. For
in being part of a commu
nity, one is connected. In
being part of a communal
service, one finds mean
ing and significance as a
connection to God, The
Almighty, is created. In addition to
this communal sense of purpose,
the holidays promote individual
accountability, as each worshipper
can’t help but think about his/her
family, friends, community, coun
try, and world at some point dur
ing the hours spent at temple.

While the Rabbis lead us through
the prayers and the Cantors’
melodic tunes draw us into inner
reflection, one can’t help but be
caught up in the
moment of piety and
spirituality ... causing
us to reach higher and
higher to a greater level
of being and purpose.
It’s hard to believe
that the high holidays
are behind us already
and that before we
know it, the days will
be grower darker and colder as the
prevailing winter season preys
upon us. Brighten that darkness
and strengthen the bonds that con

Tim Connor Rescheduled to Speak at
JCBC
The JCBC was organized in
2004 as a way to bring Jewish
business and professional leaders
together for advice and mutual
support. The group meets on the
third Tuesday of each month with
a guest speaker discussing a topic
of interest to our business commu
nity. Meetings are held at 6:30 PM
in Luski Hall, which is room 207
of the Bernstein Building in
Shalom Park.
Our November 18 guest is Tim
Connor, a world renowned sales
and management speaker and
trainer. He is the best selling
author of over 70 books including
Soft Sell, the #1 selling sales book
in the world today, now in 21 lan
guages. Getting and retaining
customers is the heart of any suc
cessful business. There are so
many approaches they are hard to
count. Tim will talk to our group
on the subject of “Building
Psychological Debt to Increase
Business, “ a powerful tool to
motivate customers to buy your
product he claims is more effec
tive than all other sales techniques
combined. Tim is a powerful and
entertaining speaker and, as usual,
we’re confident our guests will
leave with new and useful insights
into improving their businesses.
In this meeting we will have the
first installment of our new “mini
talk” program, where a JCBC
member will take five minutes to
discuss their area of expertise for
the benefit of the group. This is
not a sales pitch or an extended
“elevator speech” but a quick talk
on a subject of interest to our
members. So a realtor might
explain a complicated concept
about home financing, or a com
puter expert might discuss how to
get a virus off your PC. Contact
Don Rosenberg (donrosenberg@
gmail.com) with your idea and
one member will be selected each
month.
Meeting Schedule:
6:30-7 PM - snacks and net
working
7-7:30 PM - roundtable intro
ductions of members and guests
7:30-8 PM- guest speaker and
questions and answers
Attendance is free, but we do
ask for a $2 contribution to cover
the costs of snacks and drinks. ^
