CJDS - New Faces Abound It is with great pride that CJDS continues to showcase new faculty members to its school community. How fortunate the school is to have such talent teaching and guiding our youth. If you are wondering who that fresh faced “Suzy Chapstick” type is, it is first grade teacher, Courtney Buckner, Ms. Buckner hails from the Great Smoky Mountains town of Knoxville, TN. She has taught elementary school for 14 years and is quite smitten with her “kiddos,” as she cheerful ly refers to them. Buckner, a graduate of the University of Tennessee, received her Masters Degree in Inclusive Early Childhood Education. She has enjoyed the warmth of the pri vate school setting for most of her career. The level of parental sup port and involvement here at CJDS has been beyond her expec tations, an element markedly lack ing in the public school experi ence. She spent three years in Los Angeles, California teaching at an elite private school where the likes of actor Tom Hanks and family were not uncommon. No matter, the challenges remain the same...meeting the needs of chil dren who are all so different. When she is not teaching, you’ll find this sports enthusiast hiking local mountain trails, camping, beachcombing, or cheer ing on her cherished Tennessee Vols. Welcome, Courtney! Courtney Buckner CJDS/Levin Middle School is so privileged to have Suzanne Isola on staff as a math and sci ence teacher. Mrs. Isola has come a long way since her days of cleaning out rat and pigeon cages in her university psychology lab. This Charlotte native is a graduate of Charlotte Latin School and Agnes Scott College in Georgia. Her career began in Corporate Communications at Duke Energy ... and so did her fascination with the wonderful world of science. After years of long hours and hard work at Duke, Suzanne decided to share her passion and knowledge with a whole new audience ... middle school students ... and she hasn’t looked back. Mrs. Isola taught at her alma mater, Charlotte Latin School, for 15 years. Her teaching career was interrupted abruptly as she cared for her ailing elderly parents. As you can imagine, this experience is responsible for how she looks at the world and the humor and com- Holocaust Shoes for Darfur Give a shoe. Remember a loved one. Change a life. A page has turned for Suzanne, and we are glad to be a part of a new chapter in her life. So glad to have Suzanne here! mature, talented, conscientious, loving, and enthusiastic staff,” said Mr. Mittenthal.
