The Charlotte Jewish News -November 2008 - Page 3 JEWISH ^ JCRC Meets with " Union County Public Schools I i i i FEDERATION NEWS Jewish Federation Wins 2007 Sapir Award for Campaign Excellence The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) met with Union County Public Schools Superintendent Ed Davis and Chief Communications Officer Luan Ingram in Monroe in September to initi ate ongoing communication between the Jewish community and UCPS. Recognizing a shared commitment to encour aging and promoting diversity, the JCRC and UCPS began very meaningful dialogue to explore the many ways in which the JCRC can serve as a resource and Jewish perspec tive for the Union County Public School administration, faculty and teachers, as well as the ever-growing Jewish popu lation in the school system. The Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte is pleased to announce that it has been chosen as a recipient of the United Jewish Communities Sapir Award for Campaign Excellence. The award, which recognizes the Federation’s 2007 Annual Campaign, will be presented during the November UJC General Assembly in Israel. Named after Israel’s third Minister of Finance, Pinhas Sapir, the Sapir Award is the UJC’s primary recognition for outstanding annual campaigns among the 155 Jewish .federa tions and' 400 independent Jewish communities across North America. Winning the Sapir Award is based on a series of criteria that cover the major aspects of campaign activity including annual campaign increases, donor acquisition and retention, and campaign innova tions. The 2007 Annual Campaign was one for the reqord books. The Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte Board of Trustees raised the bar when it set a $3,000,000 Annual Campaign goal and the commu nity responded to the challenge by pledging $3,031,162! The Network meets five times each year and is open to ail professional women whether or not they are actively engaged in careers outside the home. Tw(f successful Parlor Meetings were held resulting in a 15.8% increase from donors attending; and the efforts of a seven mem ber Major Gift Development Committee saw a 15% increase from cultivated donors. * The campaign gained six new Lions of Judah and two new major donor families. * The Main Event featuring guest speaker Rabbi Joseph Telushkin broke all records with over 600 ticket sales and pledges increasing by 36%. . * Corporate and individual sponsorships were sought for the first time to underwrite our Ninth Annual Women’s Spring Lecture and our sponsorship goal of $16,000 was achieved. “It’s wonderful to be so hon ored and to be recognized as set ting the standard for the nation,” said Todd Gorelick, 2007 Campaign Chair. “But we have always known that Charlotte’s Jewish community is incredibly strong and committed to Jewish peoplehood.” “Winning the Sapir Award is a wonderful acknowledgement of the commitment, hard work and generosity of Federation’s many donors, volunteers and staff,” said Sue Worrel, Executive Director, “Thanks to the efforts of these remarkable people, the Federation is able to do so much to provide support and Jewish life to Jews in Charlotte, Israel and throughout the world.” The Sapir Award will be pre sented at the UJC General Assembly held November 16 through 19 in Jerusalem, d PART-TIME CAMPAIGN ASSOCIATE NEEDED The Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte is currently seeking to hire a Part-Ttme Campaign Associate This position is responsible for assisting the Development Director in maintaining the growing community campaign.
