Rachel Vaughn Spearheads Fundraiser
for Project HALO
Rachel with her dog, Bailey.
They are just simple pieces,
beautiful beads on string, neck
laces and bracelets, amid a vast
sea of professional and eclectic art
pieces and precious jewels, glass
sculptures and decorated mirrors.
The pieces stand out not just
because of their sim
plicity, but because of
the small sign that
accompanies them:
“Local Artist Rachel
Vaughn: Rachel is a
young artists who
donates her profits to
Project Halo, an
organization that helps
rescue dogs in the
Charlotte area.”
Project Halo is a
no-kill dog rescue
project that Rachel
Vaughn has chosen for
her mitzvah project in conjunction
with her upcoming bat mitzvah.
She tried at first to save all of her
babysitting money to donate but
that wasn’t amounting to much
very quickly. So she turned to sell
ing items that she enjoyed making,
necklaces and bracelets.
Enter Sheryl Skinner who has
just opened The Purple Pea, a shop
that represents artists and artisans
of many kinds. She was moved by
Rachel’s story of wanting to help
Project Halo and put several of
Rachel’s pieces in her shop. “I just
want to help Rachel,” she said sev
eral times when she was visited at
the Purple Pea recently.
“Helping homeless and hungry
dogs is important to me because
there are so many in need,” Rachel
says. “If we can all help this cause,
hopefully there will come a day
where there isn’t a need.”

Place on South Boulevard has
donated items that Rachel can give
to Project Halo to help the dogs
that they care for before they get
adopted.
Rachel’s goal is to raise $700.
So far she has reached $430 and is
asking people to visit the Purple
Pea at the Shops at Piper Glen
(near Trader Joe’s) and check out
her jewelry so that she can help
make the life of at least one dog a
little bit better. ^
