The Charlotte Jewish News -May 2009 - Page 2 TEWISH FEDERATION NEWS « Federation Campaign Testimonial ^ Julia Greenfield - Creating a Safe ^ Haven Here and Across the Ocean I t t My involvement in the Jewish community came with the birth of my children. Not being Jewish, everything was new to me. As I learned more, I fell in love with the Jewish tra ditions and faith. It was impor tant to my husband Russ and me that we give our children a Jewish education, so we sent our kids to the Jewish Preschool on Sardis, then to the Charlotte Jewish Day School. What was important to us was instilling in our children pride in their reli gion. From our experiences at CJDS, we learned about the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte. I met Sue Littauer, who was immediately warm and welcoming. She helped connect us to programs that were of interest to us in the larger Jewish community but particularly within the Federation system. I participated in programs locally that educated me about what the Federation does in our commu nity. During the summer of 2008,1 learned about the Federation’s global impact when I participat ed in Federation’s Partnership 2000 Women’s Mission to Shabbat Candle Lighting for May 2009 Friday, May 1, 7:50 PM Friday, May 8, 7:56 PM Friday, May 15, 8:01 PM Friday, May 22, 8:07 PM Thursday, May 28, Shavuot Eve, 8:11 PM Friday, May 29, 8:12 PM The Charlotte Jewish News 5007 Providence Road, Suite 112 Charlotte, NC 28226 JEWISH^ FEDERATION^ OF GREATER CHARLOTTE Phone (voice mail after office hours) Office 704-944-6765 FAX 704-365-4507 email: amontoni@shalomchar- lotte.org An Affiliate of the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte Amy Krakovitz - Editor Advertising Sales Reps: Pam Grossman, 704-841-1544; Jodi Valenstein, 704-841-4040; Rita Mond, 704-366-6632; Gene Goldberg, 704-366-4602 CJN Editorial Board Chair - Bob Davis Members: Bob Abel, Alan Becker, Evelyn Berger, Jeff Epstein, Ann Langman, Linda Levy The CJN does not assume responsibility for the quality or kasruth of any product or service advertised. I saw in per son the impact of our Federation dollars overseas. I experienced firsthand the relationships creat ed across oceans and how the Partnership between Charlotte and Hadera builds bridges between our two communities. Now I understand the impor tance of giving our dollars both locally and globally. From all of my experience with the Jewish Federation, what strikes a chord for me is that I understand that above everything else, the Jewish F ederation is a safe haven.
