Dor Hadash is a new generation of pro grams encouraging Jewish fami lies to explore Jewish traditions, spirituality and to develop Jewish identities together. The myriad of Dor Hadash activities are accessi ble to everyone regardless of Jewish background or affiliation. No membership is required. The Dor Hadash program is open to the entire Jewish community in the Charlotte area. The first year of Dor Hadash will be structured to appeal to families with children birth through second grade. Dor Hadash includes a special Rockin’ Rosh Hashanah service the first night of Rosh Hashanah, a special family service the second morning of Rosh Hashanah, and specially Celebrations Continue at Havurat Tikvah: Sukkot and Our Torah’s First Anniversary The Question: With the High Holidays behind us, can Sukkot and Simchat Torah be far behind? The Answer: Absolutely not; and Havurat Tikvah plans to mark the holidays in fine style. Sukkot will be celebrated on Saturday evening, October 3. In keeping with a long-standing (and delightful) Havurat Tikvah tradi tion, we invite you to gather for a pot-luck dinner, havdalah, and an opportunity to wave the lulav and etrog. In addi tion, there will be Shabbat morn ing family services, again for fam ilies with children birth through second grade, beginning at 10 AM on Shabbat mornings on a month ly basis throughout the year. Dor Hadash holiday programs include: Pizza in the Hut on Sukkot, October 3; the Dor Hadash Chanukah party, December 17; our Tu b’Shevat Adventure on January 31; a special Purim cele bration on February 28; the Passover Fest on March 21; and our Happy Birthday Israel Celebration on April 18. All are welcome to join us as a new generation of Jewish families discovers the joy and beauty of Jewish life. ^ “Hauntingly beautiful,” The History of Love spans a period of over 60 years and takes readers from Nazi-occupied Eastern Europe to present day Brighton Beach. The main characters are a 14-year-old girl trying to find a cure for her mother’s loneliness and an old man who is trying to survive a little longer Although he doesn’t realize it, this man who has become invisible to the world, wrote a book many years ago in Poland. The book, which has sur vived, crossing oceans and gener ations and changing lives, is at the heart of the novel. With many plot strands that twist and turn. The History of Love has been described as “vertigi nously exciting and vibrantly imagined.” The discussion at the November 18 meeting will enhance the meaningfulness of the book. Copies of the book are avail able at the Levine-Sklut Judaic Library, the public library and at local book stores or on line for under $15.
