Since moving to the Jewish state in 1998, Dr. Gordis has
written and lectured in his conversational, American-
focused prose about day-to-day Israeli society and the
challenges facing the Jewish state. He will be speaking
on “Saving Israel - How the Jewish People Can Win a
War that May Never End,” which is the title of his new
book. Young adults 21-45 are invited to join us for wine

Our thoughts and prayers are
with the family of Marvin
Goldberg, 67, who passed away
peacefully on Thursday,
September 17. Marvin served as
the Executive Director of the
Jewish Federation from 1996-
2001.
He leaves his wife of 40
years, Renee (LeWinter)
Goldberg; two daughters, Hallie
Johnston of London, England
and Elana, wife of Scott
MacGilpin of West Hartford,
CT; a brother, Paul Goldberg of
Toledo, OH and his two beauti-
fiil grandsons, Sam and Drew
MacGilpin.
He was bom in Cleveland,
OH and was the son of Sol and
Molly (Singerman) Goldberg.
He graduated from Ohio
University and received his
Masters of Social Work from the
University of Pennsylvania.
Marvin began his career in
1975 as the Assistant Executive
Director at the original Jewish
Home for the Aged on Pleasant
Street in Worcester, MA, where
he orchestrated the move plan to
the present location of the
Jewish Healthcare Center. He
served as the Executive Director
of the Jewish Healthcare Center
until 1996, where he left a 21
year lasting legacy to the staff,
its residents and their families as
a loving and comforting place to
both work and live.
After his tenure at the Jewish
Healthcare Center, Marvin was
the Executive Director of the
Jewish Federation of Greater
Charlotte (NC) from 1996-
2001, and then moved on to be
the Executive Director of the
Jewish Federation of Greater
Toledo, OH.
Five years ago, he returned to
the Greater Boston area, joining
his wife as the Co-Director of
Educational Options, LLC, as
an Educational Consultant,
where he continued his social
work training by helping fami
lies with their children’s special
educational needs.
Marvin proudly served in the
US Army during the Vietnam
War era, and was awarded
the Army Commendation
Medal in 1970. Marvin was a
member of Temple Emanuel,
Independent Educational
Consultants Association, The
Jewish Federation of Central
Massachusetts, National
Association of Therapeutic
Schools and Programs, and the
Autism Association of New
England.
