One miscon ception is that only people who have deep roots with generation after generation of community involvement would think to leave a legacy gift. While that may be true for some there are many peo ple in our community that become involved and committed to our Charlotte Jewish communi ty the moment they arrive. That commitment involves volunteer ing, annual financial support and the establishment of additional gifts for when they are gone. Marshall and Faylinda Lindner have lived in Charlotte for almost half a decade but have done so in their own quiet way. They have established themselves as dedi cated volunteers and have blessed many with their friendship. In a Faylinda and Marshall Lindner short time they have contributed to our Jewish community and will continue to do so for years to come. Their legacy gift assures this. They are two of our newest members of the Book of Life Society. Please take the time to read their story and consider how you too can make a difference to support the future of our Jewish community. ^ For additional information contact Phil Warshauer at 704- 973-4544 or pwarshauer@char- lottejewishfoundation.org. Making an Entry into the Book of Life By Marshall and Faylinda Lindner We arrived in Charlotte in 2005 and are deeply grateful to the Charlotte Jewish Community for welcoming us so warmly with open arms and open hearts. Although we lived a somewhat “nomadic” life for 22 years while Marshall served in the U.S. Air Force, we had established roots in Dallas, TX. We lived there for 20 years before moving to Charlotte. While it is never easy to move to a new location, it is even more challenging when you are in your late sixties, but that’s exactly what we did. We were understandably apprehensive about moving, but after six weeks we knew we had made the right decision. From the TEfTlPLE BETHEL Temple Beth Ef Presents Kosher for Passover 2 Liter Bottles, moment of our arrival we have been blessed with wonderful friends, spiritual and educational support second to none, and a vast array of activities and stimulating programs conducted by our Jewish community. We both developed strong social consciences at an early age. We were active volunteers during the Civil Rights era, participating whenever and wherever we were needed. As the years passed we became volunteers for a broad array of nonprofit agencies. This work came to us naturally as part of the fabric of our lives and as part of the Jewish community to which we belonged. Our backgrounds were very different. Originally from Pittsburgh, Marshall grew up in poverty, the son of an immigrant laborer who was an invalid at age 39 and died at the age of 46. He remembered his father’s plea: “If ever you get to college and become successful, never forget where you came from - and never forget to help others.” A daughter of a successful dentist in Pittsburgh, Faylinda was also taught to reach out to help others of less fortunate means. We have both tried to live our lives believ ing that we have a role in “Tikkun 01am,” repairing the world. Although we were not bom and raised in this Jewish community, it has welcomed us as one of its own. We consider it an honor and a privilege to be here and to be able to help maintain a strong, vibrant Jewish community in Charlotte. We have been as active as possible and can think of no better way to say “thank you” than to leave a legacy of caring for our fellow Jews by leaving a gift which will continue to give long after we are gone. ^ ^ FoLindacion ffor [lie ^j^p“^yVr:harli)Ctc Jewish ^.Ctjrnmunitv Made with sugar (no corn syrup) Coca-Cola kosher products are Linder rabbinical supervision to assure only certified ingredients and processes are used Coca-Cola has contracted with Che O.U, (the Orthodox Union oMewish Congregations) to certify its concentrates and syrups as kosher Kosher 2 Liter is marked with a yellow cap ^fEW contour-shaped 2 Liter bottle is easy to pour and easy to love! Craig, a Charlotte native, and Erica relo cated to the area to be closer to family in December 2004. This active, young family recently found that with all of their involvement at the J, an “upgrade” from Family Membership to Benefactor Level just made sense. “Max has enjoyed a variety of activities offered at the Levine JCC,” says Erica, “including ten nis, soccer, swimming, basketball, art and the new Tumblin4Kids program.” All of these programs include a complimentary transfer from his preschool. Erica goes on to say, “And the twins eat up the special attention from Craig dur ing Coach Dan’s Daddy and Me sports class offered Sunday morn ings.” Always on the go, Craig and Erica make time to work out in the David Silverman Fitness Center and with personal trainers onsite at the J on a regular basis.
